Along with our monthly 600 yard Mid Range Prone match at CRC, the NRA has created a new category which is meant to appeal to the rack grade shooter with the AR platform, in any caliber. The NRA writes that this category is not another part of F Class but rather is thought of as "prone Service Rifle with a bipod and a scope.

This match is shot concurrently with Match Rifle and Service Rifle in slings on the low end of the range, and with F Class shooters on the high end. Match format is three matches of 20 shots for record each, with unlimited sighters in 25 minutes. The three relays rotate between shooting, scoring, and pulling targets in the pits, all easily learned skills (except the shooting part!!)

We show up at the range at 8:30-8:45 for squadding and check in, close entries at 9am and usually break the first shot by 9:20-30 after out safety briefing. Match usually wraps up about 2:30 pm and our weather forecast is great.

We had 30 shooters last month, including 5 newbies, so we welcome new shooters and can pair you up with experienced shooters that can show you the ropes.

Match program, info, and details are on the www.crci.org (http://www.crci.org) website, under EVENTS then scroll down to June 11 and the Mid Range Prone ANY ANY and click on the title and the info will pop up.

I tried to upload the NRA memo on AR Tactical Rifles but am not sure of success, so send me an email ron.burgy@coloradoclass3.com and I can click it back along with the Match Program promptly............

Any questions, shoot me an email with a good phone number and time to call and I will be glad to answer................. Hope to see some of the AR-15.CO crowd out this Saturday

Looks interesting. Why the max mag on the scope of 12x? I have a 3-15 Premier that I would use for this. I have a 8 max scope also, but I wonder if that would be enough scope?

Shouldn't service rifle shot with a 4x scope be scored for NRA purposes under the new rules be counted and scored as "Service rifle" and not some other category? Or is the new 4X optic rules on the CMP side and not the NRA? And we really need to gang up on the powers that be at CRC to put the website in the hands of someone that can modernize the interface. The worst thing on that site is the way they do the calendar.

Or another way of saying it ... Isn't service rifle with a 4X scope still considered "Service Rifle" for scoring purposes and any magnification beyond that would fall into this new category? I could be getting my CMP and NRA rules crossed as to which take precedence.

OK, so let me answer the two above replies........... USMC88-93 is correct, under the new DOD and CMP Service rifle rules, up to a 4.5x optic can be shot in Service rifle leg matches, which include the President's Hundred and the NTI National Trophy Individual at the National Matches in July at Camp Perry, and Interservice, All Army, Navy Fleet and All Navy matches, and various leg matches counting towards the Distinguished Rifleman badge..... google and get to CMP and you can get the latest rules.

For the comments of MYCOLDDEADHAND, the NRA, wanting to be different and inclusive (LE may use higher powered scopes on their AR Tactical rifles) upped it to 12x ....... Personally I would not as match director go around to the AR TACTICAL shooters and worry about a scope that is a little more powerful than the arbitrary 12 x, but to be fair, its always nice to play by the rules. So the NRA has created another flavor of shooting.......and hopefully to attract the younger shooter with scope and bipods on their AR's......

Being retired military, I personally will always lean towards shooting what my active duty brethren shoot, and enjoy measuring my 66 year old skills against the 22 year old Marine team member.....or Army team member, but I like Marines more!!!!!

With scopes and bipods, I personally thought the AR TACTICAL category by the NRA was more of an F CLASS LIGHT, but if you or anyone else that comes out to shoot with us, remember the X ring on the F Class Target for 600 yards is 3 inches, the 10 ring is 6 inches....... AR TACTICAL shoots on the MR target which is the same as service rifle and match rifle which has a an X ring of 6 inches and a 10 ring of 12 inches.

I will be interested in how AR TACTICAL shooters will measure up against our Service rifle (sling and prone and mostly iron sights) and our F Class shooters at our matches.

We had 38 shooters this last Saturday, June 11th, and our July match will be July 9th as the Mid Range and F Class regional of the REMEMBERING THE BRAVE MEMORIAL MATCH which is a fund raiser for www.rememberingthebrave.org (http://www.rememberingthebrave.org) Our regular monthly matches will resume after Camp Perry in August, its on the www.crci.org (http://www.crci.org) event schedule......
