I have a 22lr revolver that i keep by the back door for anything trying to get the chickens, but i am trying to find some quiter ammo in case i have to pop a raccoon at 3am or something. I have a corn field behind my house but i do have neighbors so i dont want to wake everybody up. Is 22 short any better? With the availability of ammo its hard to just go buy a bunch to try or i would. Useing the revolver i dont have to worry about power. Anybody have a suggestion?

There is also 22BB and 22CB ammo. Not sure if available or if it has required power to send the message to a raccoon.

I have maybe 10-15 rounds if you'd like to try them out. While you're at it. Get this lead been sitting here 5 months waiting for you to pick up.

THE STRONG SILENT TYPE.
The Super Colibrí was made for hunting and target shooting. Ultra-quiet, it offers higher velocity and energy than the standard Colibrí for when that little extra punch is needed. It’s designed for bolt-action or revolver platforms.

SILENCE IS DEADLY.
Perfect for hunting and target shooting at close range, this specialized powderless round is ultra-quiet and eliminates the trouble and investment of using a suppressor. It’s great for young shooters thanks to its lack of recoil. Designed for bolt-action or revolver platforms. http://www.aguilaammo.com/img/products/126-22-colibri-50-1B222337_FINAL-merged1.jpg

+1 on the aguila, sounds like a small nail gun out of a rifle. Out of a pistol is a decent pop, but nobody's going to know what it is.

I will try that, i picked up the "quiet 22" to try. I have a box of Aguila super sniper sub sonic something or other but it is very loud compared to normal 22lr.

i will try and get to windsor this week, i forgot about the lead. Ive been down to one vehicle so its tough doing anything on my days off.

I prefer the sub's myself. If i were the OP, i'd consider a bolt action 22 and subs, or the primer only colibri. One still has a report when using a revolver. There's no escaping that fact. Sounds like a nail gun to the untrained ear, but still a report.

A nail gun is better then the 454 Casull, although the 454 would be funner on raccoons.

Subs, I have really good luck with CCI "Quiet-22", 22LR, Lead round nose, 40gr, 710fps.

Agree on rifle as well, my old Ithaca single shot lever is not much louder than my cheap air rifle.

Same here, but only ever fired out of a bolt rifle with at least a 16" barrel. Raccoons love it!
