He should'a got a ticket for being a dick. But I guess that's not illegal.

He should have his sight tested at the DMV. The "CTY" was right there.

Your thinking of illegal dick [Sarcasm2]
Did the biker interrupt the "official" Duncan Doughnut order? The cop was being a dick.

Cop was a dick. Somehow expecting the guy to know he was a cop, even though the cop car was a essentially unmarked.
I dont believe a cop is inherently safer driving and using the phone than the general public.
stupid confrontation.
His first couple beeps was fine, then laying on it when there was traffic coming. Can spook little old ladies and other idiots into an accident.
He was saying that he is a cop on the phone, which was pointless to argue. The point was he (biker) is not a cop, and not one that should be out trying to correct peoples behaviors. Especially since his beef was driver on phone as opposed to fucking texting drivers which are the really big scary one. And don't get me wrong, I wish I could pit manuever jackasses risking others. In the i25 crawl into down town in the morning I watched this 20 something bimbo on her phone almost rear end the car in front twice and continue texting/glued to phone...
Does an officer really use their phone as part of their duty? I have no idea but thought they used a radio. Also is using the horn really counted as road rage? There were plenty of cars coming the other way in this case but in general I don't think the horn counts as road rage. Cops reaction here was completely overkill.
What a douche bag. I would have been written a ticket almost instantly.
"I was making a police call. "
"So pull over, stupid."
"Honking is road rage."
"But jumping out of your vehicle and getting in my face is not?"

Both in wrong. Like i said i think nothing would have happened if it was the 2 quick taps, but when you lean on the horn......
And yes cops use the phone constantly, many i see have issued flip phones. Often calling in to sgt for advice or directions. Coordinating with detectives, or calling dispatch with longer complicated traffic

So let me get this right - this officer sees the dude on Zuni standing on his bike while in motion, swerving in the lane, and other "hot dogging" maneuvers, but chooses to make contact with him when he honks his horn? Maybe you're not fit for duty, sir. That being said the rider was a douche as well but more than like works at GameStop and was running late to his dungeons and dragons meeting.

The phone is always in use. Everyone wants their time to bitch about stuff: their neighbor who speeds, smokes pot or their dog is barking, a complaint about another officer, dispatch wanting to give more sensitive information that shouldn't be aired over the radio or MDT, or a myriad of other things.

I think the biker was a douche. No reason to have honked and was just rude. I little patience would have prevented everything.

Cop made his point NUMEROUS times that he is "entitled" to use his cell phone. Bike rider was lucky the idiot didn't draw his service weapon and fire a couple rounds in the air to really impress the bike to show more authority. Cop's wife perhaps cut him off last night.
Both in wrong.

Maybe the biker wasn't completely in the right beeping, but once the confrontation started, the biker was calm and fairly articulate.
The cop acted like a bully doing what ever he could to try to escalate the situation into a serious confrontation.
I'm pretty sure I would have asked the cop "am I under arrest for beeping at you while you were talking on the phone impeding traffic?", if the cop would have said anything other than yes, I would have a driven away. Just watching that video started putting me into a fight or flight mentality. That video should go to that cops department and 9 News, he proved he has no ability or desire to diffuse a confrontation and is a liability.

Hope the cop never goes to the Bahamas, they honk for everything there.
Looks like a nine minute dick measuring contest to me, and they both lost.

That cop was a total dick. I would have honked too. However, I have a Stebel air horn on my Vstrom and that would have sent Officer Crankypants into a whirlwind of pissed off.
Jesus christ how long do you have to listen to the bullshit. I don't go around honking my horn at people but if I did something wrong write me a ticket and save your breath maybe you'll live longer.
Wow that cop has real issues and the first few beeps were fine but he should have stopped. Both were wrong. The rider wasnt avoiding pot holes, he rolled through some stop signs etc. However that cop seems like a hot head waiting to explode.
So whats the point of horn? I guess acording to that officer i have serious road rage

Enough bs on both sides there. The cop also should've thrown on his lights while he was stopped dealing with the bike guy. I'd like to see the Denver ordinance that defines horn honking as road rage. I honk if someone just sits at a green light without looking up from their phone, I honk if someone comes into my lane when I'm there (either on 2 or 4 wheels), I honk if it looks like someone is going to cross in front of me when they shouldn't or don't have right of way. It's the way to get the attention of another driver/rider/walker to avoid something bad. I'd like to fight that one in court if I got a ticket for it.
As a motorcyclist I see plenty of stupid/asshole behavior by other bike riders as well as bad driving from cagers. They both seem to have been struck with the stupid stick.
Easy to see how both parties could've prevented or disengaged from an obviously stupid situation.
I would accept a "road rage" honking ticket with a smile though.

No reason it should have gone on that long. Cop was being a total ass.
I would have honked again when he got back in his car, but I'm an asshole like that. BTW I thought everyone had to be on a "Handsfree device" while driving?

I can empathize with the biker here. He honked at the driver in front of him for impeding traffic while talking on a cell phone, which is illegal. He wasn't looking to start a fight. He wasn't looking for confrontation. He apologized numerous times. The cop repeatededly interrupted him and talked over him while continuing to block the road and threaten him. Cop should have broken contact after about 15 seconds.
Doesn't even matter if it's illegal, it's rude and inconsiderate.

Agreed. Also, honking is the legally accepted way to signal that you'd like to pass the vehicle in front of you in most states.
Huh. Apparently I was road raging today when the guy in the pick up truck in front of me wasn't paying attention to the light and I honked. Who knew.
If I'm not paying attention to something when operating a vehicle I appreciate when someone honks to let me know. Maybe I'm just weird that way.
Wed some crazy idiot purposely went behind me and honked, then moved left side of me, and gave me a middle finger.
I wish I had a dash cam with 50BMG on top of my car. lol

Me too. I'd much rather be honked at then hold up traffic and be an ass. But I'm a pretty good "heads up" driver and with a manual both hands have to be on my car to make it go. So that's seldom a problem.
That said, I usually don't honk if I can just go around people who aren't driving/paying attention. Usually that's fine but sometimes people want to rage over it. Like they had a right to hold up traffic and I just ruined it for them.
Cop was wrong on several levels, period. Good reason to always have a camera right there. A judge SHOULD see that footage.
I havent ever been in a situation where a LEO was anything but professional.
I am old enough now to not up with shit. After he kept dragging it out I would have said "call your supervisor, I want to have him/her on scene" If he wouldnt I would call 911. I have no patience for bullshit.
I like the way you think!

Total dick move by the cop, who apparently has anger issues and thinks he's above the law. Continuing to block the traffic while expressing this citizens nerve for the ignorance of the power of being a cop in an unmarked car and being on the phone while either being on an "official" call or not illustrates this. It's more important to him to react to his lack of attentiveness by going on the offensive than considering the safety or travels of other people impeded by his stopped and unmarked vehicle. The cop also doesn't understand maintaining control using your knees as a shock absorber on rough road when cycling.
I've had to snap drivers in front of me out of their smartphone stupor after a light change numerous times.
Use of the horn should be freedom of expression under the 1st. If a cop was being a dick like that to me, I'd exercise my right to remain silent and let the video speak for itself.
I know this round about very well as I use it M-F. Rarely are there problems with traffic progressing as designed, the exception being those who don't know how to navigate it. I've honked at a few ppl who sat there during an opening in traffic for 5sec. They wake up and move. Life's good. Motorcyclist was being a dick for the camera. LEO was also being a dick. Two wrongs and no one was right.
Motorcyclist was being a dick for the camera.
How is this different from someone running a dash cam?
How is this different from someone running a dash cam?
It isn't. If I filmed myself and realized I was being a jerk, I wouldn't post it online. Like I said. Both parties were wrong IMO.
However it wasnt like he was trying to make a confrontation and catch it on film. He had veen recording the whole time. The cop juat assumed he wanted to catch him doing something wrong
