There are some places in Normandy where there are billboards that show the war damage of a building or chateau in front of the restored structure.

I had the honor of escorting 28 WWII Vets back to Normandy for the 70th anniversary and being able to see some of these places that I visited as they were 70 years ago is incredible!
I had no idea there was landing craft that big. In movies they always have the little ones holding about 50 guys Those look like ships ran into ground though.

Switching back and forth between then and now on that 6th picture of Sainte-Mère-Église is just haunting. I can almost see the spirits of the people leaning out of the window in the older picture, in the newer picture.

I find it really neat that in that second picture (the one with modern-day hotel Redesdale Arms Hotel), the stone shading on the hotel is the same now as back then, with the bright patch on the upper left.
