Moving and setting up the new gun room and shop has given me ample opportunity to re-evaluate my need for a lot of the things I've accumulated. I'm finding some of it's highly desirable...the whole "one man's trash" thing.

I just sold a 4th Edition of the "Machine Gun Dealer's Bible" on GB for $250. I had no idea these books were so much in demand until I started looking at where to price it. Makes me wonder what some of my other "crap" is worth.

Might be worthwhile to go through your stash and look for things you can part with. I can buy a new gun or something else I'll use, more than that book, with the cash.

Yup-I picked up a WWII German rifle scope for $20 at a garage sale several years ago and found out doing some internet research that because it had the original lever mount, scope rubber, and cork for the the other lens it was valued by a collector at $2000.

Neither if these make any sense because there is huge demand for both of these. These are not old titles and could easily be reprinted.

About 10 years ago, I listed a Norwest Bank money bag on eBay. I used it for small tool bag, but tools outgrew the bag. So, I decide to sell it.
I was expecting about $5, but ended up getting $48 (2006 usd currency). :D

If you wouldn't buy it, you should probably sell it.

Dang I've been looking for that 4th edition for a while. I have a 2nd and a 3rd edition in the old binders.
Not sure I'd pay anywhere near that though, unless I planned to sell it off later.

Ummm ... damn. I have like 4 copies of Clawson. I knew they were in high demand and likely to go up in value but ... hell ...

You should sell one or two! Cash in before they reprint.

I knew the "big book" was a lot of money but I no idea the little one would be so much. The little book is perfect in my opinion. I got mine mail order from Karl Karash several years ago and he included his copyrighted collection pics.

It was a limited print run which was why I was sure it would go up in value. For some reason, he seems to like the business model of small limited print runs when he feels like updating it. Doing a reprint would probably involve much more than we think.

Control + P?

If there's money it, he should be able to make it happen. Price it at $60 and I'm sure it would still sell.

Mine is the 2nd edition, third printing (2004).

I know I wouldn't. I paid $35 + $4 SHI in 2009. I actually still had the invoice on the inside cover of the book from when I bought it off eBay.

I gave up trying to find Clawson books at a reasonable price. I have several of the Edward Scott Meadows and Poyer 1911 books. They were reasonably priced, still are, and seem to have pretty much the same info.

I had two second editions of "The Rifleman's Rifle" by Rule. I decided to sell one so I looked online for pricing and crap, they were selling on Amazon for like $350 to $400. I put it on Craigslist for $450 and sold it to a guy in Canada within 48 hours. I kept one copy and since they printed the soft copy for $100 my remaining second edition is worth maybe $250 now. I have other shooting and military books from the 1940s through the 1960s stashed in boxes in the garage. Next time I move I will have to make the effort to sort through them. Anybody want to buy my 1960s and '70s Playboy collection?

Bailey Guns

I don't remember Playboy from the 60s and 70s having gun pictures in them.

You would correct but Hugh Hefner and Playboy came out on the side of the second amendment being an individual right.

Heck I paid more than I thought I should to buy some back issues of SAR because I was looking for the M-60 series. Then I realized they were all online. LOL.

I'd guess $75-175 on the 2nd ed. btw, but it depends on who else is selling. There were zero copies for sale for probably 6-9mo and prices spiked, but there have been a bunch including 4th editions out there lately. Lots of guys seem to have them for sale for $300-600 now but none are moving.

I picked up a top break Smith and Wesson baby Russian from a yard sale. I kept it loaded in my coffee table display case for a couple of years. I took it to a friend who researched it, then called me and asked for me to remove it from her shop, as her insurance couldn't cover it. It turns out it is a first year production 1877 that is near mint condition. I no longer keep it in a display case, it is in a safe bolted inside a safe. The musuem did take good care of it for a few years.
I like to buy antiques and there is no rhyme or reason to what I buy. Sometimes they are quite valuable, most of the time, not so much.

The last house I bought had two hidden gems. There was a rug nailed to the middle of the hardwood floor in the dining room that turned out to be an extremely valuable tapestry. And when I was running some network cable in the master bedroom I discovered an enormous walled off void that I was able to turn in to a second walk-in closet.

Just in case you didn't know, he won't be updating it anytime soon.

Oh, and BTW, anyone want to let go of a Clawson Big Book for a reasonable price, I'd be a buyer (thereby ensuring the rumor of his widow releasing a reprint comes true, naturally).

I have over 25 Disney near mint condition VHS tapes. Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, 101 and etc.
It is at my mom's place, and she is bringing all of them tomorrow. I just need to see if it is a Black Diamond or Classic diamond.

During my High school years, I started collecting these VHS. The Little mermaid which was sold for $300+ was the start. :D

A few years ago I bought a collection of books in a fit of "this is too good to pass up!" A lot were just junk. A lot were valueless in terms of $, but still valuable for content and piquing my historical interest. And then there were a few things like the Roman Breviary in English set from Benziger Brothers publishing. Here's an example of that set and its apparent worth (seen the set go a few times on eBay, so this isn't a one off): http://www.ebay.com/itm/English-Translation-of-the-Roman-Breviary-1950-1-and-FREE-Bonus-Book-/172194238941?hash=item28179391dd:g:OsIAAOSwYmZXKrE D

Set is worth anywhere from 1100-1500 on eBay.
Note, the above auction is not mine and only serves as an example.

I did the hw about week ago. Where it said "classics" black Diamond background is worth more according to ebay.

I remember selling my Disney collection of VHS tapes for what seemed like top dollar at the time, IIRC $250 for Little Mermaid in 2001-ish. Some went for $50, others for $100.

Will have to go see what current prices are doing.

This discussion of Disney VHS tapes is pretty interesting. My brother must have 40 of them in the original packaging--never opened. He bought one of everything for his little girls who are now 14 and 17 years old. I should offer to give him 50 bucks for the set! What are big brothers for, after all? :-)

So, I found out I do have an unopened (with disney store tag and price) Beauty and the Beast VHS. I remember buying 2 of those around year 1993 with my parents.
That being said, there are lots of eBay seller asking ridiculous price.

I am trying to find true mkt price by someone who actually sold a copy at certain price. $30K? LOL....
I will sell a copy to anyone here for $1000! [LOL]

Turns out a lot of folks are asking ridiculous prices, but on actual auctions won they are going for like $25-$30.

I think it's one of those things where the internet showed everyone how common they actually were as opposed to the perceived rarity.

Recent Market price.

Average is going about 150-180?

The disney vhs thing has to do with those being the first, unedited transfers from the original film masters. The later releases and DVD/BluRay have all been edited and remastered, at least so far.

I've got an MGD Bible, 4th Ed, too - I knew people were going nuts looking for them, but had no idea they'd gotten up to those levels. That might well have appreciated more (percentage wise) than some of my machineguns bought around the same time.
