View Full Version : LAR47
Gun ADHD kicking in. Anyone have experiance with a LAR47 or any other AR that takes AK47 mags? Want a larger cal AR along the lines of 300BO, but thinking that cheap commie ammo may be the way to go.
Pros? Cons?

I've always been of the mindset that if I'm going to shoot 7.62x39 it's going to be from the platform that was designed to shoot it (AK) sorry I've got nothing else.
Yeah I've shot one that a buddy has and it only eats brass-cased ammo. Nice gun and all that but...your usual steel ammo, either polymer or lacquer coated sticks in the chamber. You are lucky if you get two shots off before a case sticks.
I wouldn't recommend getting one just because of that.
Thanks for the info. It does not sound like a viable option.

Mine shoots nothing but Tula, cheap and fun to shoot. No issues with mine. I did use KAK barrel, gas block and BCG. Only time it will shoot brass is when I take it deer hunting this year.
I'm semi interested in the CMMG MK47. There is a guy (Mr. Gunsngear?) on YouTube that has videos where he puts lots of rounds through one. I think he had a stoppage when the gas block came loose but besides that it seemed to run pretty well. I'd probably pin the gas block before I ever took it to the range anyways because that's just what I do.
I like that the CMMG has a beefy bolt. More like a 308 and not a standard AR bolt cut out for the larger cartridge.

The MK47 has caught my interest too. I wonder if any local dealers have one in stock, I would like to fondle, er, ah, handle one.
The fact that it takes standard AK magazines instead of a special proprietary one is a good thing, especially here in "Colorful Colorado".
Look into the CMMG Mutant. Great reviews, gives you an option to use the Russian ammo with a similar platform.
