Phone still works but the screen is all shattered. Anyone ever attempt a DIY repair?
I see parts are available inexpensively. You tube shows a few that have attempted repairs and then the phone no longer worked.
How hard is this really?
I've replaced laptop screens before but I have no tech/ESD/knowledge, but I can turn a screw driver.

Anyone successful? Have a favorite parts vendor?

This is the daughters deal, I won't pay to fix it, but I will do the work. If you remember from some of my other posts she's in so deep with traffic tickets, previous car repairs etc she's drowning in bills right now.

I know there are places you can pay for them to replace screens and IIRC, they are fairly inexpensive. Of course this depends on what type of iPhone but I would call around first to see what parts and labor would cost. Then you can decide if a DIY repair is worth the additional hassle/liability.

I've only done them on s3 and s4. Those went ok but the s3 never was the same. Much happier with just buying a used phone.

Guys I work with have replaced their iPhone screens. They say it's pretty simple.

Beyond that, I have no good advice.

I've done several, from an HTC HD2 to iPhone 5. Some finesse required, but generally easier than reassembling a Ruger Mk3 22/45...[ROFL1]

My daughter killed two phones in two months at one point of her illustrious teen years. I feel your pain.

Wife shattered an Ipad and an Iphone in the same month. I think the place she took it too was about $119 for the Ipad and 109 for the phone. Better than bricking it and having to buy a new $700 phone IMO.

Do people not believe in cases? I've literally dropped am Iphone off the top of a roof and it didn't break.

What version iPhone. If its a 5/5S/5C/5SE it might be cheaper to get the entire front assembly, versus pulling off all the cracked shards of glass and replacing the screen. If you buy the glass with digitizer its basically plug and play, but costs more. If you are just replacing the glass, its a PITA to heat the adhesive and align everything up, but its cheaper.

I've done both.

They have a location in Denver.

It's an iphone 6, does have a case but more pretty than good, not a magpul or otterbox.
SouthPaw, shot cpr-nco an email. Everywhere seems to run around $100.00, she has heartburn with that, that's why I was wondering about doing it myself if she picked up the tab for parts.
I'm being a bad dad and not paying for this one. I am rethinking it tho, if I did attempt a repair and ruin the phone then I'd be in trouble so i guess I'll scrap this idea.

The 5 and older bodies were pretty easy. The 6 is a lot more challenging. Also you won't want to try and just replace glass, just buy the entire digitizer and glass together. Trying to separate them is a bitch and something that can easily be screwed up. You're unlikely to get parts for much less than 100 bucks if at all. For that money I'd just pay someone to do it properly.

US seller(If NJ counts), $30-34 shipped, depending on color, comes with the necessary tools.

those gorilla glass screen protectors have saved two of our phones lately. peel it off and replace it with another. $20 or less on amazon.

This.. I can't afford to replace a $700 phone. I used to get the phone insurance, but have found a $40-$60 lifeproof case, has proven effective for everything I have put my phone's through.

I get that people break phones, because I hear about it all the time, I've just personally never broken a single phone. I'm not gentle with them, I think I'm just lucky.

After reading a few stories here and with a Google search I decided not to buy the parts and attempt a repair myself. Seems pretty hit and miss on the D-I-Y repairs. So it's on her to have it repaired. I am forwarding on all these shop recomendations to her though, so thanks for those.

I have a iPod Touch with a shattered screen, but it still works fine. Need to get that fixed someday.

Alternative (https://www.engadget.com/2016/05/21/iphone-band-aid-screen-cover-pitamo-bansouko/)if it's still functional just cracked/shattered.

My wife's iPhone started acting weird. The proximity sensor quit working, so the phone didn't know when she had it up to her ear on a call. The screen wouldn't deactivate, so when her face would touch the screen, it would either hit mute, hang up, or start another call. We went to the Apple Store in Cherry Creek mall today, and we're told that we'd have to wait at least an hour, and then it would cost $129 to fix. We then saw a store down the hall called "Cellairis". The nice lady there said she could repair it on the spot for $35, and was done in about 10 minutes. Perfect job.

Shattered my iPhone and iPad screens last week. Looks like a visit to one of these places is in order. Just got the iPad Pro 12.9 to replace the broken one. This silly thing is way too big for my needs and the screen is just begging to break ! Going to return it and get a normal sized one.
