I don't like to kill wildlife just for the sake of killing. But this guy took up residency on the back steps of the house in Mrs BG's flower garden. It's also a favorite place for one of my Terrier's to visit. I can't risk a member of the family being bitten if I can help it.
I bought a Taurus Judge a few months ago because I was told there were rattlesnakes in the area. Today, it came in handy. The snake was right at 3' long and fat. I think it's a North Pacific (aka: western, Pacific, black, etc...) rattlesnake. He may have been resting after a meal. His last meal. One round from the Judge did the trick almost instantly. Just to make sure I went all jihadi on his head with a shovel. I did leave his body in our field for the birds and whatnot to dine on.

Looks like he had eaten recently. Any chance you posthumously examined his menu choice?
Wow I already freak out seeing big garter snakes lol.

No...but I thought he had recently eaten as well. I left his body intact for the various other critters that might find him delectable.
Eater going to be eaten. I've heard rattlesnakes are fairly good.

Pair of mouse ears and a disney name tag .
I almost stepped on one the other day at Golden Gun Club, coiled up around a trash can. Then saw it was a bull snake. Startled the hell out of both of us.

Yeah, we have bull snakes here, too. They like to lay right on the dirt roads and they're very hard to see when driving. I don't mind having them around...they keep lots of things in check. Rattlers I don't have much use for even though they eat mice and such, too.

Yep, there are plenty of non-poisonous snakes willing to do the job of the poisonous ones.
Fangs need killin.

Denver Post: Rattlesnake bites Colorado groom during wedding photos
Fortunately Benson was lucky. The snake delivered a “dry bite,” which didn’t inject venom into the wound.
I haven't seen this happen too often.
Really "got lucky" on his wedding day
Only good snake pics are dead ones, GJ!

I'm grinding my teeth right now, I freaking hate those damn things with a passion! My buddies wife attempted to tease me a bit with their pet snake, after about a minute my buddy told her to put it away or I would kill it, by the time she turned and looked back at me I had my pocket knife out.....she has never tried that again. Some of my most fond memories with my grandfather was catching them and throwing them out in the middle of the road before a car came by and watching them get crushed, the ones who still had a bit of life left got met with the shovel real quick.

That looks like a bull snake to me. I don't have a problem with them.

Yeah I tried to catch him so the boys could check him out, but he was quicker than I was.

A .410...#7 or #8 shot. Nothing fancy.
