Hey all,

Anyone have [access to] an FN SLP shotgun? (shouldn't matter which model, I assume the bolt/bolt-carrier-group's are all the same across the different flavors) If so, can you please do me a big favor and tell me if the extractor moves freely on the bolt with zero effort? Currently, I can wave the bolt around and the extractor will flip back & forth against the bolt. In fact, this may be just a "duh - that's never normal" that I simply don't know enough about guns to realize.

My last 3-gun match I had a *terrible* time with the shotgun because of failure to ejects, but I put it down to bad shotgun rounds that had been in a minor flood. The boxes soaked up water on the ground and made the shells wet to the touch, they were in that condition for about a day, at which point I dried everything off with a towel. During the match, I thought they had lost their oomph because perhaps moisture had effected the powder, and were thus failing to throw the bolt back far enough to properly feed another round. 90% of the spent shells were stovepiping.

I bought new shells, and am prepping for next weekend's match so I go to clean it and discover that the extractor on the bolt is flopping around quite willy-nilly. I *don't* think this is normal. If the extractor (or the spring, or any part involving it's interaction with the bolt) is broken, then it would explain everything because not every shell I was using had been involved in that flood and I had basically just put that match down to a bad day. Honestly, it's a bit early

I just called FN, but they're in MO and I assume that they're closed for the day. I don't shy away from disassembling AR bolts, but I haven't found any documentation on the web for disassembling an SLP bolt, and the manual says not to disassemble any further beyond field stripping for cleaning, so I'm going to wait to talk with FN before I go accidentally voiding a warranty. The shotgun only has ~700 rounds through it, and is cleaned regularly enough.

Yes, you have a problem. Likely a broken spring.

Thanks, sounds about right. I got the service form all filled out, but they're moving repair operations from MO to SC, waiting until July 4th (err 5th) to send it out.
