Family members set to inherit a stockpile of guns and ammunition, worth millions of dollars, plan to destroy the weapons "to send a message," their attorney Daniel Brookman told ABC News today.
"They want these instruments of death to be destroyed," Brookman said. "They don’t want these weapons out on the street."
Jeffrey A. Lash, of Pacific Palisades, California, died last summer of natural causes, but left behind a stockpile of more than 1,500 guns, 6.5 tons of ammunition and nearly $250,000 in cash, according to local ABC-owned station KABC-TV. All of the purchases were legally made, KABC reported.
The reason Lash amassed such a collection remains a complete mystery.
Man Stopped With Weapons Cache Was on 'Mission to Help Other Families' (http://abcnews.go.com/US/man-stopped-truck-filled-guns-mission-families-daughters/story?id=40041621)
'Orlando Will Be Repeated,' and 'No Place Is Safe,' Former ISIS Captive Warns Congress (http://abcnews.go.com/US/orlando-repeated-place-safe-isis-captive-warns-congress/story?id=40042247)
Lash did not leave behind a will, so his first cousins and closest relatives are set to inherit the stockpile, according to Brookman, although the inheritance is still in litigation.
The family members are taking a firm stand in deciding that they want nothing to do with the weapons, or the millions of dollars they could earn from selling them, Brookman explained.
"They don't want them to contribute to the carnage," he said. "Especially in light of San Bernardino and Orlando, as ordinary citizens they feel like a stand should be taken."
He added: "The relatives are wanting to send a message not just to the nation at large, but also to our elected leaders."
The family's stance comes as Congress has been debating gun control (http://abcnews.go.com/topics/news/issues/gun-control.htm) measures over the past week.
On Monday (http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/gun-control-proposal-congress-agree/story?id=39993198%20target=), the Senate (http://abcnews.go.com/topics/news/us/united-states-senate.htm) rejected four gun safety measures that came to the floor for voting. Today, Democrats organized a "sit-in" (http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/gun-control-proposal-congress-agree/story?id=39993198) on the House floor to protest Republican inaction over gun violence.

Agreed.

Their personal beliefs about guns aside, you'd have to be an idiot not to sell them if they really are worth millions of dollars.

Why would you basically turn down millions of dollars?

It's easier to bitch about the 1% and their do nothing for the 98% than actually do something, positive. 1 Million can buy lots of FSA food and shelter. BUT.........it's easier to set an example, than actually be an example.

Sounds like the multiple women who financed him should have a shot at the loot.

Title completely misleading
They want to destroy them but are in litigation which means they don't own them

If through litigation they end up getting the guns I am totally fine with them smashing them. It's their property, do with it as they wish.

It'd be hypocritical for me to not want them to tell me what I can and can't do with my guns, but I turn around and tell them what they can do with theirs.

Do I think it's a smart thing to do? of course not.

it wont happen. There will be at least one smart person in the family who will want them all sold for cash. I seriously doubt they will get everyone on board destroying money.

You're forgetting, CA is the state where having a back ground check to buy ammo , is about to become law.

Totally agree. 1500 guns and a loot of ammo....pfft.

Hell I would keep some and sell the rest.

This.

I can almost guarantee Bloomberg or Anytown threw some cash their way for the litigation and is offering them even more cash if they win and have the guns destroyed. They'll pay fort hat kind of publicity all day long.

If you don't have a Will, make one. If you have one, make certain it is up to date and that any relatives or friends who would be this irresponsible get nothing.

This would be a great opportunity for the NRA to stand up and proclaim that they stand behind these dip shits right to do as they please with these or any other guns that they own. And to further proclaim that no gun owner should ever be told what they can or can't do with there own guns.

Plus if these people are stupid enough to believe this makes any difference and they follow through it's proof enough that they are too ignorant to have a million dollars.

So, the guy convinced several different women in his life he was not only a secret agent, but also possibly an alien Lord, and they gave him money to indulge his fantasies of more guns than one can imagine and a fleet of zombie apocalypse vehicles? Plus, none of them call him on his bullshit until the day he dies?

I was waiting to see if anyone would recognize the guy for the genius he really was. The guy was definitely a player. Multiple women, a dozen pimped out vehicles, over a thousand guns, tons of ammo, and a quarter million dollars in cash. When you're rolling like that you can be bat shit crazy and people will still think you're cool and want to hang out with you.

...and that is the beauty of America. We are free to make all the silly decisions we want to. You are absolutely free to believe guns are the cause of all that ails us. I am free to believe otherwise. This is liberty at work.

I agree that the owners of the firearms, once the court has decided who the owners are, should be free to do whatever they wish with their property.

The problem with anti-gunners is that they don't just believe guns are the cause of all that ails us, they believe that the cure for that ail is to remove our guns. That isn't liberty, it is tyranny. People can think or believe whatever floats their boat. When they begin to impose their beliefs upon me, they infringe upon my liberty. It isn't like I want them all to be forced to own guns, so I become a bit indignant when they believe the government has the right to take mine.

As long as they don't harm anyone I don't care what they do with their property. If they want to use the firearms to make an extremely expensive statement that only people that already don't like guns will appreciate then that's their business.

Yep, some folks in Kenya will help them with their plans to destroy.
Eleven giant pyres of tusks went up in smoke Saturday as Kenya torched its vast ivory stockpile in a grand gesture aimed at shocking the world into stopping the slaughter of elephants. Estimated Black market value at 100 million US Dollars.
