Wanted to throw this out there in case it can help someone.

One of my pups has some breathing issues, and the current vet prescribed Terbutaline Sulfate, which is used in people with asthma and bronchitis.

All the pharmacies seem to charge right around $140-$150 for 30 pills.

I looked around, and found several free "prescription discount" cards on the internet. The cards are free, no signup, just print a copy of the card off a web page.

One I found dropped the cost from $150 to $14. That would have been great, except that walmart would not honor the prescription discount card because the prescription was for a pet. If it had been for a person, walmart would have accepted the card and sold the meds to me for the $14 price, but since it was for my dog, they wanted to charge me the $150 price...

I tried several different places, and I think king soopers pharmacy would have accepted it, but they were out of the drug and wouldn't get any until next week. But Walgreens took the card with no issues. Their price was slightly higher at $18, but still massively discounted over the normal retail price. The person ringing me up couldn't believe how much the card took off the price.

These free cards can really help out people on medicare and such as well, and maybe even on some insurance plans that don't have good prescription coverage, and certainly for people not currently insured.

Several different ones:
http://www.discountdrugnetwork.com/print-card-page/ (this is the one I used that walmart would have accepted, but only for people prescriptions)
http://www.coloradodrugcard.com/create.php
http://unarxcard.com/

And the pet one I used successfully

Again, zero cost, zero personal info, doesn't hurt to try it if you are stuck paying for prescriptions out of pocket. I don't think any of these work in addition to insurance. And from the ones I've checked, they don't appear to offer savings on non-generics.

Hope it can help someone, be it for people or pets.

usually the pharmacy eats the money on them, which is why some don't accept them. if they do in fact get paid by the company, its usually due to marketing. the card companies use money generated from marketing to cover part of the medication cost. i know our pharmacy rarely gets paid though, they still accept them because its a competition thing.

Yeah, I wasn't surprised that I had to try a few places before I found one that would accept it. I suspect even less places will accept them for pet meds, but it was definitely worth a little shopping around.
