While I try to give them a lot of options and have them shoot a lot of different chamberings, actions and weights, the two handguns that always are at the top of the list for women I have taken to the range to learn to shoot and for CCW classes who eventually get a handgun are the Taurus 905 and the CZP07. They get to shoot .380s, .38s, 9mm, .40s and some even try .45s. S&W, Glocks, Kahr, Ruger, Taurus, CZ, 1911s, KelTec, Springfield from sub-compact to service pistol size are all available. The Taurus 905 has grown on me, and that is what my wife prefers, but she likes the CZP09 at the range, and for at the house.

I can't get her to carry her damn training cert home from her locker at work.

She has a P238.

My permit is coming up for renewal so I'm pressing her to come in with me to get hers done.

DIL carries a P238
#1 Son carries a LC9 (and dislikes it) I think he's still looking for the right replacement

My wife is like a teenage girl, she can't make up her damn mind. LC9, Keltec P11, G26, G19, S&W J frame, 1911...pretty much everything but an 81mm mortar...

M&P Shield 9, in a IWB holster:

She's got their "Ultimate clip" which actually latches onto her jeans waistband, and is a lot less obvious. She never wears a belt, so the ultimate clip helped a lot.

Still working on getting my wife her CCW, when she ventures out and about she usually takes my Springfield 1911 in the car so she's got something. I need to get her something smaller to take along.

My wife has her permit . . . she was the one who really pushed to get them a few years ago. I pretty much always carry--she NEVER has. Trying to get her to come around, especially since she works in an area that can be a little sketchy. She has a Shield 9mm and a G26. She says that she likes "having the option." I'll keep trying to get her to try it out.

LCP in a Hunter pocket holster, but in her purse. It keeps the gun grip side up.

Kahr cw9. She doesn't like shooting it much, but she does hit the target. She does like shooting the 629 4", which she is very good with, but it is hard to conceal when you aren't 5 feet tall.

She took the training, but I can't get her to just go to the Sheriff's office to submit the application.

We went to the range and fired a variety of weapons to see what she liked, and she loved the Sig P938 better than anything else she shot. Too light of a trigger for me, but it's a nice shooting and compact choice.

Just surprise her at work and tell her you're taking her to lunch, but drive her to the sheriff's office instead. Works when they get out of line as well.

SP101, but if you ask her she says she'd be more likely to beat someone to death with it than actually shoot them. You see, that's too easy...

Started with a G26, carried it for several years ... complained it was too heavy. Transitioned to 38 Special LCR. She loved the lightweight and carried it for 4 years. Out of the blue she started asking about 380 and all those new small frame pistols that shoot it. Now she carries a Kahr CW380 and likes it. She still likes the LCR though. For home and range, she has her XD9 and R1 1911.

An M&P Shield. It took a little time to get comfortable concealing it but it is now quite easy for me. It shoots pretty well too.

My wife decided the only gun for her was the SIG P225A1. She keeps it in a velcro sided holster stuck to the inside of her purse, with a CRKT Obake Skoshi strapped to the outside.

Are 44s too much for you to handle? Do you have a caliber preference?

Girlfriend carries a Glock 19 at work, G 43 when not. Daughter-in-law has taken a strong liking to my son's 9mm Shield-I think he's going to buy another one lol.

I haven't tried a 44 yet. I shot a couple of 45's the other day and they were great, but they were full sized. I would imagine that the smaller versions would kick a little bit more. I carry a smallish pistol because I am smallish and carry on body so I like a 9 for concealment...so far.
If you want to help a woman pick out a gun let her rent a few and try them out. Encourage her to practice with the one she chooses. My M&P shield 9mm has been great to start out with and as I get better shooting with it I become open to more possibilities. I am using the NRA Marksmanship Qualification Program to increase my skill and confidence, and I have seen some other ladies enjoying this at the range as well.
I hope that is not too much information.

The 44 special is surprisingly mild to shoot...it does limit choice to a revolver. 44 mag is just punishing.

Hm, interesting. I like to have lots of rounds. Not sure how I feel about carrying a revolver for that reason, but it might be interesting to try if I ever get the chance. Thanks.
