I have been looking for a new muzzle device. I use a Midwest 3 chamber comp right now, looking for something different.

What do you like to use? Looking for something a little more quiet.

If you want something quieter than a brake, get a flash hider or even better a Can. I personally use muzzle brakes, noise be damned.

What ever suppressor i run, has that brake on it. While very annoying to other shooters, i like the brakes over f/hiders. It acts as one more "blast baffle" in my suppressor.

For unsuppressed rifles, basic YHM 3 prong style units.

If you want a good effective comp with less concussion, there are three that on the top of that pile. Seekins STC, Dynamic Resistance and the Gas Hog.

Great suggestions. I will be looking into these.

Normally I shoot alone or at outdoor ranges that are pretty spread apart. What brought this on was swapping weapons with an ex-military buddy. His DD AR and my Colt were two different beasts in the noise department.

A muzzle brake will greatly reduce recoil but will be loud. You will likely shoot fireballs out of a short barrel

A flash hider is great for reducing flash signature, but you will have more felt recoil.

I tried to bump fire a rifle with a brake, recoil was reduced so much that it wouldn't even "bump". Added a blast chamber to direct the blast forward and I was able to bump fire it.

I have AAC cans, so i run all 51T brakes (except for 1 flash hider)

Why are you looking for a new one? What are trying to accomplish with it?

Looking for something a little more quiet for the people next to me. Hell, I can feel the blast every time a round is fired. Normally I wouldn't care, but just trying to be respectful to others.

I've found the BCM Comp to be less abusive than most brakes but still effective at reducing recoil & muzzle rise.

Then you don't want a brake at all. Get a suppressor ... For everyone else of course

or a compensator that directs the blast forward not out

In this case I went for the psych-them-out intimidation factor. It does tend to throw flames a bit too.

You could just go with a simple flash hider and just get used to dealing with the massive recoil of the 5.56 round.

I hear if you get a good brake that tames the massive recoil of 5.56 one might not develop PTSD after shooting the poodle shooter. The press corps might want to make note of that. [LOL][Flower]
