Is there a way to blacken stainless other than painting / CeraKoting ?

I picked up some Stainless 1911 magazines through some of the 4th. of July sales, and it looks crappy with a polished stainless magazine base plate peeking out of a blacked out CeraKoted And a blued / black anodized 1911s.

Will cold blue darken the stainless ? Aluma black ? Are there other treatments that will do what I am wanting to do ?

I've tried cold blue on mag base plates before and it darkened them but looked blotchy. I've also never had much luck with aluma black, but have never tried it on the base plates. I may give it a try next weekend.

My treatment is to replace the base plate or buy mags with one. :-)

(aka CMC, Tripp, Wilson, etc.)

Aluma black will not work on s/steel.

How many base plates you looking to do. Have to look at my 1911 mags. If they're black, maybe a trade?
