Hey guys a little piece of metal in my locking mechanism broke. I have tried everything to fix it and can't figure out how to fix it! I tried Home Depot, lowes, and ace to find a replacement with no luck.

Patio latch?
I might be able to find a replacement assembly. Or that part can be welded pretty easily

If that is a patio door lock, can't you just buy a new lock to slide into the door?

JB weld?

Jb weld wouldn't work, yes patio door, this is a double latch huge lock assembly.. Nothing came close to matching it in the stores I mentioned. If someone could make or weld I would be willing to mail and pay for mailing it back or meeting someone.

Any particular reason that JB weld or some type of steel putty wouldn't work???

Weld it and file it flat.
If you are handy enough, buy a piece of metal at hardwarestore, drill holes and file the outline, smooth with a sand drum.

Cheapest fix.........Drill a small hole in each piece, pop river a connecting link to them.

OR a quick spot weld.

Any particular reason that JB weld or some type of steel putty wouldn't work???The shape indicates it doesn't have much room. You'd need a large blob for it to even work. Actual welding would make this cake

I see your point. As mentioned earlier, just get a piece of metal and cut, grind and file til its the right shape and size. Any lowes or home depot will have a piece for that.

I can't weld so I guess my only option is to trace it out and get out the angle grinder and dremel... I don't even have a drill press! Was hopping someone could weld it but I guess I can try making it first.

You don't own a hand drill and bench vise ? That's mild steel. Cheap drill bits would go through the metal you need.

Looks like there's 2 things you need to treat yourself to.

Looks pretty thin. I could give it a shot. Do the two pieces just but together?

This company probably stocks the entire latch. You should have no problem grinding one real quick

Men used to make fine rifles with nothing more than a few files and chisels...

Now they use e-files and e-chisels !!!

Piece of backer plate, and a spot welder fix that real quick.

Does the manufacturer sell individual parts or whole mechanisms online?

So tomorrows post should be a pic of a repaired or fabricated bracket.

Haha we shall see I'm also trying to get the rest of the house ready for another baby! A metal bar though annoying it has been doing the trick! I do need to go to some hardware store today to get some stuff so I'll at least grab some metal.. Probably look in the garage first I suppose. Off I go.. Need to clean the house first today so when the wife gets home it looks like I at least did something today.
