I have a Glock 17 Gen4. We all know the mag for that firearm is a 17 rounder. There are 15 rounders available from people who modify the 17 rounders to 15. This usually involves using a limiter or block and epoxying the floor plate permanently on. Unfortunately, you can't disassemble to fix or even clean. Glock to our rescue!

Last week I noticed Midway was selling 15 round mags for G17. It didn't seem like them to be modifying the mags or even selling retrofit 15/17 rounders. I called and they said they are from Glock and the floor plate is removable! I called Glock and they confirmed. Midway has a Glock part number MF17015B. I googled that number and found a few hits. They were described as blocked, but I don't believe it. The part number on the packaging is 370026. This didn't turn up anything.

Here's the Midway link:

I just got them and the floor plate is not epoxied on. I haven't disassembled them yet, but the floor plate moves around. I will test tonight and let you know how it went. I am very interested if the 15th round goes in as hard as the 10th round in the 10 round mags.

Check it out, only 1-15 is labelled on the back of the mag.

Nice. Still not sure I'd get another 17. Personally, for me, I'd still rather have a 19. I know, the 17 has more sight radius, longer barrel, blah, blah, blah. But for me speed and practical accuracy is as good or better with the 19.

Still glad to see Glock addressing the issue with 15 round magazines for those with limits.

Agree on all points.

May make the sale of a G17 a bit more tenable... Glad to see Glock addressing this.

Ray just doesn't like when his barrel is shorter than the gun he carries [ROFL1]

You've never handled/shot a 34 or 17L have ya? :D

Shot a buddy's 34 this past weekend. Wow. That was a whole other experience from my 19.

My pinky wasn't as comfortable with the 19, so I went with 17. Almost purchased a G19 though.

The last round went in so much easier than the 10 round mag. Good to see.

Owned one of each over the years. Obviously everyone is different and prefers different things but they just weren't my cup of tea. I didn't shoot them any better than the 19 and for me I didn't like the feel of the recoil impulse if that makes any sense. I have smaller hands and I think the 17/34 full size frame just doesn't fit my hand to where I'm comfortable. I think the humpy part of the grip is what bothers me. On the 19 and even the 26 the hump just fits better into my hand and gives me better feel and control or something.

Anyhow, my first post here wasn't meant to bash the 17 or steer anyone away from it. Just pointing out that even with the availability of 15 round magazines I am perfectly content sticking to my 19.

I really wanted a 19 to use for everyday carry but the 17 just fit my hand better so I got that and a 26. Luckily I purchased a bunch of standard magazines several years ago.

1 of the 3 mags doesn't hold the slide back after last round about 50% of the time. I'll clean my gun then try again. If it continues to be a problem I'll contact Glock.

I bought 4 10 rounders about 2 years ago. 1 of them had the same issue with holding the slide back. Glock replaced it and all was good. I have concern about Glock's QA on the lower capacity mags.

If I could shoot a 19 as well as my 17 would get one, but for whatever reason I can't shoot the 19 very well.

A Glock factory 15 round G17 mag would involve the body bulging at the bottom to single-stack dimensions, so it would still take the regular spring, floorplate and follower, but not allow the bottom two rows to double-stack, while still using the same factory spring and follower. Modification would involve hogging out the restriction at the bottom to fit 17 instead of 15 if you lived in a free state.

This follows the pattern of the 10 round G17 mag, where the body was bulged to single-stack dimensions all the way down, internally, resulting in a 10-rd magazine still using the same factory follower, spring and floorplate as the regular 17rd original.

Exilemachine.net also has the factory 15 round G17 mags in stock. If I recall they were just under $22 plus shipping.

I'm glad that Glock is trying to help their customers here in Colorado (and any place else with 15rd restrictions), but frankly I'd never buy these on principal. I would rather violate this stupid stupid law.

I respect that.

I cleaned my gun and tried again. Used all 3 multiple times and they worked perfectly!

A 19, or a 23, is all I'll ever need. But I do also very much like the feel of my 17C, 17L and 34. And my EDC is a 26.

I have a 17, a 19, and a 26.... The 17 does shoot best, but the 19 and 26 are damn nice too.
