View Full Version : question about cutting a barrel
I'm building a QC10 project in .45 right now. I'm down to two parts that I need, the barrel and the BCG. I want a 7.5" and/or 10.5" barrel for it but they're sold out of every length below 14.5". Is it viable to order the longer length barrel and have it cut down to the length that I want? Are there any drawbacks to doing this?
...also is there another company that makes the BCG that I'd need?
Never mind the BCG question QC10 just got them back in stock and I got one ordered. So psyched, been checking their site every day!

Contact macon armory. He offers a DI 45 upper that runs smooth, if you're looking for something different.

BP, I figured I could, didn't know if it was bad for the barrel in any way. I have a 16" on the way, hopefully they have the shorter ones in stock by the time my stamp arrives.
Thanks Kazoo, as of last night I have all the major parts or they're on the way.
Will this barrel work? http://www.joeboboutfitters.com/Kaw_Valley_Precision_8_5_45ACP_4150_QPQ_AR_15_Ba_p/kvp-45acp-bbl-8.htm
I'm currently waiting on the 9mm bolt to come back... I've talked to their tech guys about the build i want to use, and while they haven't done it they told me they've seen it and what was done... Tried to get the same info from JP who also make the 9mm bolt... and they've yet to respond.
Their in stock notification system is meh.. so I just check back daily.

A cut barrel will need to be recrowned, and if you want muzzle devices, rethreaded. No harm, per se.

Did you try the telephone?

He's young. They don't know how to use a phone that way.

Their stock notification flat out doesn't work. I ended up checking the site a few times a day until I saw stock. I was at Centennial Gun Club this weekend and they had a 9mm bolt and barrel on the shelf.

Go buy one from the 9mm ar link. They carry 3-4 different mfg bolts.
