View Full Version : Royal Gorge Gun Club: membership, questions, etc.
Anyone here a member of the RGGC (http://members.royalgorgegunclub.org/index.html)?
I'm interested in the fact that they have range out to 1300 yards and should be reasonably free of idiots (unlike certain places in the shadow of Cheyenne Mountain).
Not a super large amount of info on their website. I've read through the by-laws, and I like the cut of the President's jib in this letter (http://members.royalgorgegunclub.org/pdf/2014%20Come%20to%20Jesus%20Letter.pdf). Sounds like a straight shooter who doesn't put up with stupidity; I like that.
Only hang up seems to be per the site you have to have current member as a sponsor and I have no contacts in that regard, of which I'm aware.
I realize I can ask these questions to the club itself, but figured I'd ask here first:
Specific questions:
1) Do they have and/or allow steel on their LR lanes? If they don't have it, would they accept and allow to remain in place steel if donated?
2) Anyone here a member and willing to sponsor? Would be willing to meet up prior to a yay/nay answer, provide references, etc.
3) Is member fee individual only or do they have family rate? Disregard, found membership PDF which answers that question
4) are members allowed to escort non-members as guests? (membership form says 2 per visit, but unsure if anything changed with the issues of the past) I realize they've had a problem with non-members in the past, but am under the impression it was while unescorted (and in violation of the by-laws).
Thanks!

If you find someone, I'm interested too.
I was a member there for many years.
Shooting past 300 yards is a pain in the ass. The backstop is a ridge. The normal firing points go back to 300. Past that you are behind everyone and shooting over their heads.
So... to shoot at distance you have to be there early when nobody else is shooting.
Ah, good to know. Since I'm looking into ranges which are member-based, any suggestions -- especially anything which runs the gamut on both actual LR (steel preferred) and short range "tactical" or even with a shoot house?
Pueblo West Sportsman's runs Tactical matches that are open to the public. No shoot house, but Pistol Caliber Carbine is legal in USPSA matches.
Yes, aware of matches. Looking for an at-leisure situation to allow no longer having to put up with CMSC's preference of catering to shallow gene pools.

I am the VP for RGG&P club. To answer some of your questions, I'll start with the sponsor. Don,t worry about it. Fill out paperwork and mail in, when approved, you'll be asked to go to Lincoln Park Pawn Shop to pick up and sign for your gate card. We now have a electronic gate that works off of a card reader. It keeps most of the idiots out. We do have steel set up for long range shooting and we will take any donated steel for additional targets. Fridays are long range days. LR shooters have priority. If there is someone shooting at the main firing line when you get there, they have 1 hour to continue shooting, then they are required to stop and turn over control to the LR shooters. We do allow guests, but they have to be accompanied by the member. Gate card replacement costs 25.00, and this has stopped most of the unauthorized people from learning the gate combination and using the range whenever they want. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask. John
John,
Thanks for the reply on this!
Just wanted to add an update to this post since I am fortunate enough to be one of their newest members. What a great shooting range which I know took/takes an enormous amount of work. When I recently moved to Pueblo County, I was discouraged to find the shooting situation in Pueblo so difficult (waiting lists, etc), but I'm so pleased now to have this great place to shoot relatively close by. I was also able to become a member of the Pueblo Municipal Shooters Club indoor for pistols (a great club in its own right), so now I have it all covered. Bill

UPDATE on previous post. Memberships are available. We have constructed numerous new ranges including an 800 yard unknown distance range with steel silhouette targets. Currently working on construction of a trap range, and two new electronic gates. Our original gate was destroyed by a blond women pulling a trailer and trying to leave before gate closed. She didn't make it. We have steel on pistol ranges, several rifle ranges, and set ups for .22 cal silhouette targets. Eight different ranges on the same firing line. For more information contact John or Mark at Lincoln Park Pawn in Canon City @ 719 276 3030.

Update on RGGC ranges; We just added 5 new plate racks and 5 stand up silhouettes to 3 of our pistol ranges. We have completed the dirt work for 3 tactical alleys and are having ar500 targets made to put in them. They will be set up for handguns and pistol caliber carbines only. Memberships are still available. Check out our website for upcoming events including CMP service rifle matches, combat pistol matches, Night Vision rifle match, long distance precision rifle matches, and our night Halloween match. RoyalGorgeGunClub.org. This is a shooting experience you won't want to miss! John
My wife and I have been members now for a few months and we really enjoy the range, John.
When there was the hiccup with the gate cards, you all were quick to respond and get us on the property. We were really excited about the new steel you all are putting out.
Everyone we've met has been super welcoming. Have only had a few instances where people saw the .22lr ARs at the pistol/.22LR range and asked us if we knew it was not a range for ARs. When we let them know they were just .22's, they bid us a good day.
We took some family friends as guests and they thoroughly enjoyed it, and are now asking about a membership.
My only complaint is I've not been getting any emails about cleanup days, etc. Would love to help out on any projects, so long as I'm not already scheduled to work that day.
Thanks again for what is, in my opinion, one of the best range complexes in CO!

Thanks for the great review. We value your opinion and are continually striving to make our range the best in CO. I will check the database on Monday and contact you to see why you haven't been getting the emails. The first workday this year is April 7th and we can use your help if you can make it. Thanks again. Latest Update: We have completed construction of new entrance and exit gates, both work off of card readers. Keeps the riff raff out. There are now 14 ranges on the same firing line, including 2 long range rifle ranges with steel silhouette targets in excess of 900 yards on the west range and 800 yards on the east range. All ranges have covered shooting benches, including the new 500 meter animal silhouette range. Next Saturday, the 13 of Oct. we are having a night vision shoot on the east rifle range. With a infra red laser illuminator the silhouette targets at 800+ yards are easy to see with the right NV scope but still hard to hit. Memberships are still available at this time.
