My girlfriend and I and I are going on a 7 day cruise end of September and Im now trying to figure out how tio get from Houston to Galveston. We were going to rent a car but it will be $335 for the week plus $65 for parking. Anyone use the shuttles?

Cruise lines don't shuttle?

Looks like there's an Amtrak service?

Uber? - quick google search "A quick search of Uber shows a ride from Houston Intercontinental Airport to the Port of Galveston would cost $77 – $103 one way. You can expect to pay about $125 – $150 for the same trip via cab."

A google of "Houston to Galveston transportation" reveals lots of options, including limo service if you want to impress her :)

I would use the shuttle service if the cruise line is offering one.

No shit haha im seeing if anyone has done the trip before and what their experience was. I dont need to impress her. I did find a shuttle that would be 100 for both round trip. Looks like thats the way ill be going.

Watch out for the mosquitos down there. Zika virus is showing up in Miami.

Grew up there. You don't want to drive in Houston anyway. Let someone else drive. It's just a straight line down 45; there's no scenery worth noting until you get to the Causeway.

This, it is a long straight highway with nothing to see on the trip down. There are a number of worthwhile restaurants in Galveston now however. I Lived in Houston for 8 years. And for a year or so was driving from Northwest Houston to Galveston Island for work every day with a return trip in the evening,I know every inch of that road by heart.

I vote the two of you just hitchhike.

If you time it well, you can snag Pokestops while moving, so let someone else drive. Good luck.

The only Family left down there I would not recommend. The wife is from Galveston and grew up in League City.[Flower]

Not sure about that stretch of highway, but one of the few good things I remember about driving in TX was finding the BBQ joints off the highway in the middle of nowhere.

But if you end up driving watch out for the DPS cruisers. I got a ticket and fined for 3 mph over posted limit back in 2000, and one of my times hog hunting in Wichita Falls, I think in 2013, I got pulled over and given a warning for 4 mph over.
