14.5 light weight build (need assistance)

I have had a spare CMMG with a heavy 16 barrel and spikes rail collecting dust. I hate the rail and the upper is heavy. I finally purchased and installed a BCM 14.5 pencil barrel (.625 at the FSB/gas block)

My plan for this gun is more of a rugged lightweight KISS style rifle for my wife. Was going to keep the FSB and run an MOE SL hand guard. Problem is, the FSB from my CMMG barrel is .750 and wont fit the new barrel. The only .625 FSB's I can find are the taper pin types but need drilled. My barrel isn't drilled either.

First question, would my new barrel need drilled along with the FSB and what is the going rate cost wise for this type of work?

My other option is to get a rail height gas block and a flip up front sight, still running the MOE SL. Are there anything wrong with these: http://www.bte-usa.com/receiver--rail-height-gas-blocks

Its hard to find quality gas blocks in .625 at rail height. I'm open to suggestions. Im trying to keep cost down but I'd rather do it right the first time.

PRI makes a 0.625 clamp on railed gas block. That is what I would use.

Doesnt have to be the lightest thing in the world. But after factoring weights, a midwest SSM rail would weigh less than the MOE with delta assembly. Then I could go for a low pro gas block and it would solve the FSB issue.

Think damage has .625 GBs with two set screws. Drill dimples for the set screws and you should be ok

There's several lighter options. Fsb shaved and a lightweight set of handguards is lighter than all but carbon fiber tubes even after the delta ring.

Those are strike ind, steel, low profile gas blocks. Depending whose bbl you choose. make sure the block area is long enough for gas block picked.
The Faxon 625 bbls have short gas block areas. I did one with the SI block, no problem. The other i was "planning" on using a NIB 625 front sight post unit. Doesn't work due to shorter gb surface area.

There's no need to pin the gb. I do 2 relief cuts (round file) after seeing where screws sit on bbl. Using red loctite i then (after test firing) use my spring loaded center punch to stake the screws/ gas blocIF you feel there's a need to pin, but don't have tools or feel comfortable doing so
Choice 1: gunsmith

Choice 2: tap existing pin hole then use set screws to hold it. I've done the set screw method on stock front sight post units. Unless the sight post is being installed on to the original bbl. There's slim chance said post lines up with another mfg's bbl.

I kept going back and forth on this one but finally settled and ordered the MI gen 3 LWM rail at 8.2 oz for a 12.6 inch including the barrel nut. Looking forward to getting this thing together. Thanks for all the input fellas
