TruNews has obtained the recording of the broadcast and has aired it today: http://www.trunews.com/article/john-mccains-1969-tokyo-rose-propaganda-recording-released

Vero Beach, FL - (TRUNEWS) U.S. Senator John McCain recorded a Tokyo Rose-style propaganda message that was broadcast on North Vietnamese radio in 1969.TRUNEWS, a nonprofit Christian digital news app, obtained the bombshell audio recording and released it today on the organization’s daily newscast hosted by Rick Wiles. TRUNEWS acquired the audio recording in cooperation with WeSearchR.com, a new media company founded by Charles Johnson.
The 1969 North Vietnamese radio broadcast has never been heard in the United States of America. In fact, there has never been any knowledge that such a recording existed. The audio recording was found in a misplaced file in the National Archives in Washington, D.C. The broadcast was recorded by the Foreign Broadcast Information Service, a branch of the CIA that monitored international shortwave and foreign radio broadcasts.
Lt. Commander John McCain was shot down over Hanoi by a North Vietnamese missile while flying his 23rd bombing mission. Both of his arms and one leg were broken. He was pulled ashore by North Vietnamese who took him to a prison known by POWs as the “Hanoi Hilton.”
McCain was a prisoner of war for five and a half years. He was released on March 14, 1973, and returned to the United States of America as a war hero. His POW legacy propelled McCain to victory in a race for a U.S. Congressional seat in Arizona in 1982. He replaced Barry Goldwater in the Senate in 1986.
In the propaganda recording, Lt. Commander McCain said he was “guilty of crimes against the Vietnamese country and people.” He confessed that he bombed “their cities, towns, and villages and caused many injuries, even deaths, for the people of Vietnam.”
He praised the medical care and kindness of his communist captors even though he came to North Vietnam as “an aggressor.” McCain said he wished to express his “deep gratitude” for their “kind treatment” and that he “will never forget” the kindness extended to him by the communist North Vietnamese.
Senator McCain is running for a sixth six-year term in the Senate. He is facing a strong primary challenge from former State Senator Dr. Kelli Ward, a physician in Lake Havasu.
The Arizona Republican Primary is August 30. Sen. McCain will turn age 80 on the day before the primary.
Here is the actual script of John McCain’s 1969 “Tokyo Rose” propaganda broadcast on North Vietnamese radio.

“To the Vietnamese people and the government of the DRVN:
From John Sidney McCain, 624787, Lieutenant Commander, U.S. Navy, born 29 August, 1936, Panama, home state Oregon. Shot down 26 October, 1967, A-4E, an aircraft.
I, as a U.S. airman, am guilty of crimes against the Vietnamese country and people. I bombed their cities, towns and villages and caused many injuries, even deaths, for the people of Vietnam.
I was captured in the capital city of Hanoi, while attacking it. After I was captured, I was taken to the hospital in Hanoi, where I received very good medical help. I was given an operation on my legs, which allowed me to walk again in a camp, and my right arm, which was badly broken in three places.
The doctors were very good and they knew a great deal about the practice of medicine. I remained in the hospital for some time and regained much of my health and strength. Since I arrived in the camp of detention, I received humane and lenient treatment.
I received this kind treatment and food even though I came here as an aggressor and the people who I injured have much difficulty in their living standards. I wish to express my deep gratitude for my kind treatment and I will never forget this kindness extended to me.”

As opposed to Admiral Jeremiah Denton, who was such a catalyst amongst prisoners in the Hanoi Hilton, that the Vietnamese separated him from the other prisoners and made his life an absolute hell on earth due to him morse-code blinking "TORTURE" during a tv interview and other acts of resistance.

Denton and Tschudy were both held as prisoners of war for almost eight years, four of which were spent in solitary confinement. Denton was notable for his leadership during the Hanoi March (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hanoi_March) in July 1966, when he and over 50 American prisoners were paraded through the streets of Hanoi and beaten by North Vietnamese civilians.[4] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeremiah_Denton#cite_note-Rochester_and_Kiley-4) Denton is best known from this period of his life for the 1966 televised press conference in which he was forced to participate as an American POW by his North Vietnamese captors. He used the opportunity to communicate successfully and to confirm for the first time to the U.S. Office of Naval Intelligence (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Office_of_Naval_Intelligence) and Americans that American POWs were being tortured in North Vietnam. He repeatedly blinked his eyes in Morse code (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morse_code) during the interview, spelling out "T-O-R-T-U-R-E". He was also questioned about his support for the U.S. war in Vietnam (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vietnam), to which he replied: "I don't know what is happening, but whatever the position of my government is, I support it fully. Whatever the position of my government, I believe in it, yes sir. I am a member of that government, and it is my job to support it, and I will as long as I live."[5] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeremiah_Denton#cite_note-5) While a prisoner, he was promoted to the rank of Captain (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Captain_%28United_States%29). Denton was later awarded the Navy Cross (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Navy_Cross_%28United_States%29) and several other decorations, mostly for heroism while a prisoner of war.

Denton was put in the "Hanoi Hilton (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hanoi_Hilton)" and the "Zoo" prison and prison camp and "Little Vegas" and "Alcatraz" prisons. In "Alcatraz", he became part of a group of American POWs known as the "Alcatraz Gang (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alcatraz_Gang)". The group consisted of James Mulligan, George Thomas Coker (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Thomas_Coker), George McKnight, James Stockdale (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Stockdale), Harry Jenkins, Sam Johnson (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sam_Johnson), Howard Rutledge, Robert Shumaker, Ronald Storz and Nels Tanner. They were put in "Alcatraz" and solitary confinement (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solitary_confinement) to separate them from other POWs because their strong resistance led other POWs in resisting their captors. "Alcatraz" was a special facility in a courtyard behind the North Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense, located about one mile away from Hoa Lo Prison. Each of the American POWs spent day and night in windowless 3-by-9-foot (0.91 m × 2.74 m) cells mostly in irons (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legcuffs).[6] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeremiah_Denton#cite_note-6)[7] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeremiah_Denton#cite_note-HonorBound-7)[8] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeremiah_Denton#cite_note-8)[9] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeremiah_Denton#cite_note-NYT19741208-9)[10] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeremiah_Denton#cite_note-VeteransDayPOW-10)

No, he's a disgraceful twat. But we already knew that.

He was a POW 5 and 1/2 years and endured more torture and mistreatment than any of us could imagine. He refused to leave without his fellow prisoners and to this day cannot raise his arms above his head due to the way he was treated. He has said many times that he regrets his broadcast but notes that he was pushed to his breaking point. Most of us here would disagree with his politics but I for one respect him for what he has been through.

Being captured and surviving a POW camp does not make one a "hero," nor does it magically bestow leadership ability or wise judgement.

McCain is a prick who has profited from his celebrity for too many decades.

....but refusing to leave your fellow POW's behind may make you a hero. I think the criticism is unreasonable and a bit over the top. I hold most individuals who have served in the military in high regard, regardless of their political beliefs. Would I vote for him, unlikely.

No, Lance Sijan was a hero. McCain is a twat.

McCain is not someone I admire as a politician. But it has nothing to do with this recording which was obviously made under duress and brutal conditions most of us can't even imagine. In my opinion there's plenty of things to dislike about John McCain...this isn't one of them.

While I disagree with much of his voting record I certainly respect what he endured in service to our country. Too many people can't separate McCain the POW and McCain the politician, the level of disrespect he gets at times is deplorable. McCain is a hero, period.

"As far as I'm concerned, McCain shouldn't even have to run for election in the Senate. He ought to be in the Senate as long as he wants to be."

The UniParty becomes more transparent by the day.

Globalists, the neo-con or RINO.

I am going to say that it has everything to do with it since mcstain has used his heroism as a campaign tool.

There's a lot I can fault McCain with, but his Hanoi Hilton experience isn't one of them.

All I needed to understand where McCain was coming from politically are the bills he co-authored with Ted Kennedy. He's a RINO and a publicity whore.

I cannot see how his experience in Vietnam doesn't inform his political activity or show forth his character. He compromises in hard times politically, just as he compromised (though in an extreme sense) in Vietnam. Plenty of men went through similarly horrible experiences and did not compromise.

Would I have done the same or taken it on the chin? I have no idea and will not bluster int hat regard. But we know what McCain did and we can see a more pedestrian analogue in his political workings.

Lee Ellis wrote a book "Leading With Honor, Lessons from the Hanoi Hilton" It's a good book and an important read to give context to the broadcasts GI's were asked or forced to give. Short version: the men of the Hanoi Hilton realized no man could endure the level of torture imposed upon them, so they resolved to hold out as long as they could before giving in. Once the VC learned what an important person McCain was he received extra 'attention' and it was the VC goal to break him and get a 'confession' out of him.
