On a serious note. You set targets up before or after you choose a place to shoot from?; That's some haul either way.

Looks like a nice place to shoot!

We just use dirt bikes or ATV's (when the guys that have them come) to place/retrieve targets, cause yeah, hoofing steel around at height sucks.

That is ideal for sure... but I managed with just shooting rocks. It's clear as day seeing your hits and you can hear that ♪♫SMACK!♫♪.. it's as good as steel for sure.

Where is that? Looks like a Jeep trail down below, so..??? Where is a public place above treeline where can a guy shoot long-range?

I can't recall, but I understand in a "National forest" you are allowed to shoot as long as you're not shooting over trails (including Jeep/road trails), water, etc... Shots were at the face of a mountain and not over any of what I've mentioned. If there was a "NO SHOOTING" sign on the area or trail... believe me... I'd take a picture and post on here to show that I'm a bad ass!

You know, they hold these events where all your pals get together and shoot guns at long range together. It's fun! It's called a "match", and you should try one!

Cool pic.

Reminds me of a conversation I had with a guy on SnipersHide recently.

A guy was working up a new load for a 7mm rem mag with Berger 195 EOL hybrid, and he was doubtful he would be stable beyond 1600 - 1700 yards.

I was working up a load with the same cartridge / bullet combo at the same time, and I had calculated with JBM that showed I would be stable to 2000 yards.

I am at 7000', he was at 500' ASL. That'll do it. I can't even imagine 13,000 ASL.

Jaysus. Just get into space a little and there are no come-ups at all... it's always 1.75" low...

Yes indeed... I went up there again when the snow hit... just to confirm.. only difference was windage (winds were blowing really hard), but elevation was pretty spot on. [Beer]

I'm lost with this lingual... and I'm trying to understand.... but I will assume since I'm already an ass, lol!
That space (1.75 low on mils) is still mind blowin to me... I love to treat this hobby as a new thing every time I go out for personal reasons, lol!... but yes again, the rounds seem to fly faster and higher... I need to chrono my shit up there.... [Coffee]

Last time we were in National Forest to shoot long range we ran into a Division of Wildlife cop and told us we couldn't shoot because we could see our targets and what was coming from either side because we were to far away. I tried reasoning with the guy but he just wasn't having it, total dick, he gave one of the guys a ticket for not having proper backstop (a mountainside), and another guy a parking ticket ( he was a couple feet forward of a parking sign). So before we were even rolled out we were shut down by an idiot. Completely pissed me off. So, hope no one runs into that guy while your out, we were in Pike National Forest FYI. Looks good though Mike! Glad your outing went well.

I was shooting at the face of the mountain (which consist of nothing but the mountain face) and not over anything... so no concerns there, lol!
Other than that... Brother man... it is truly an eye opener shooting up at those altitudes... I'll be happy to share you the spot as I trust you and the very very few... let me know.. I'll go up with you if I can [Beer]

Just a little bit higher in outer space - no atomosphere, no gravity... no need for hearing protection. Your scope is about 1.75" over your bore.
