Broke a bolt catch at the range today. Was shooting some lake city 193. Only one mag through with the new suppressor and the catch went flying.

Is this just a defective part or is the gun over gassed with the suppressor. I have a flat spring in but do I need a heavier buffer with the suppressor.

It is a Daniel defense 10.5 inch with a standard gas block.

Any help would be appreciated.

Yes. possibly an adj gas block. I'd go with a 5 - 6oz buffer, adj gas block. For my suppressed long (semi) guns, start with a 5oz buffer and closed gas block. 1 click per round, opening the port till i have it cycling with bolt locking back on last round.

You might try the adj block before going to a heavier buffer. My 11.5 carbine is 6oz, the 20" runs stock.

I also use number drills to see what bbl gas port is (with gas block off) then close to that size. I then count "clicks" till it closes. This way i know where setting is for suppressed to (if i want to) open block to bbl port size.

Thanks GK. It is odd as there is not a whole lot or room for the bolt to go back and then slam into the catch. It basically stops just a bit behind the catch when pressing it in. I will run it again and see what happens. Had a spare lying around anyway. If it breaks again I will try what was suggested. Was hoping to not have to mess with the gas block.

Any brand recommendations for an adjustable gas block?

I like the SLR units.
