It's a pretty accurate description. They were definitely being detained. I'm sure they had other things they'd rather be doing.

Plus, they couldn't really be called prisoners if they hadn't committed any crimes.

Black barefoot hobo? What about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq? Every president since I have been alive is delusional! Ike warned about the military industrial complex...if only American citizens have rights, why don't we have courts for crimes by foreigners? All the money spent on this bullshit, and the VA can't fit me in for a medical appointment? I bet the detainees got better medical care than me! Granted they don't have Netflix! Don't worry, they are going to pay for a civilian doctor to see me, but it is the wrong kind of fucking doctor! More money wasted! I feel like Hitler screaming in his bunker near the very end!

Having spent a year in Gitmo recently, I can tell you without a doubt that they receive better care than you. Each of the camps has an M.D. and multiple medics to assist and they fly in specialists monthly to do other procedures. There is a chiropractor on staff (which was a female when I was there and the detainees struggled with the fact a female was touching them verses the relief they were getting from the adjustments) and dentists. They have their own medical facility if they need extended care.
