Civics isn't taught in school these days. It's an uphill battle to get my 9 y.o. daughter to be polite let alone respectful in many circumstances. I doubt many children her age can recite the pledge of allegiance.
Just a rant. Reminded me of when I chaperoned a field trip to the Memorial Day Parade and several of the marchers came up to me and shook my hand. The children looked at me like I was a celebrity. People act like service and respect are anomalies these days.
