View Full Version : My "new" tool box
My "new" tool box inherited from my mom as my dad died earlier this year. It's make from some sort of old arcade game, I've admired it since I was a kid and and really pleased to have it. It was made somewhere between the early 40's and early 60's, I am researching it trying to find out what the original game was and when it was made in an effort to figure out the real age. I was told it was an Uncle's high school woodshop project but that would have been early 40's and I'm not sure thatos completely accurate.

Sorry about your dad, but that's a nice heirloom.
Thank you Robb. I was very close to my dad, we worked together for 23 years so I saw him daily. I have many cool things from him including tools, guns and of course great memories.

Right there with ya!
Sorry to hear about your dad. That is a cool thing to have, its nice to have something that will keep good memories around.
Sorry about your dad, but I'm glad you have something that holds many memories.
I searched all over the web and couldn't come up with anything. Many of the painted parts look like they would fit together to complete a larger pattern and that might make it easier to find.
Another photo with the front "door" on it. I am starting to think that it might be multiple machines that the parts came from.

What a great Dad memory !
From that picture, I'm guessing pinball machine with the worn arc from ball launching and the bonus when lit.

Didn't even think about that but I'd bet you are correct. That will help me with all the internet photos of pinball machines that I've been searching.
If it's as old as you think , also possible it's an old pitch-and-bat machine.
I was thinking tabletop (bar) shuffle board, but I've never seen one that wasn't a bowling machine. Spent some time as a lad hanging out in working man's bars with the old folks...
Curiosity got the better of needed sleep and I Googled images last night for quite some time but couldn't find a match. I was really looking for those purple streaks with the balls as those seemed unique.
I bet if you find a shop/collector that specializes in that stuff, they could tell you the make/model dates it was around.
What kind of arcade games were even around in that Era? I'd start with that and I bet you'll drastically narrow your search.

Mostly Rockola pitch-and-bat and some early pinball machines as far as I could find.

The story behind it and amount of character it has is awesome.
Some good suggestions here. I've spent quite a bit of time searching online and I thought the balls with the purple were the unique identifier as well, but I was searching pinball machines and did not think about the possibilities of other types of games. I guess I'll have something to do tonight!

Take some face-on pictures, maybe cut the pictures up and reassemble them as correctly as possible, then head to the Manitou Springs Penny Arcade and talk to the people there -- they have some vintage stuff:
