Just thought I would post up my day today.

A customer of mine lives out east and had put together a shoot today with a few guys. There were 8 of us there and we had at least 100 different guns, unfortunately the day got cut short by rain but none the less it was awesome!!

One of the guys had a 50 cal military issue. It was hands down the coolest gun today. I think we fired 60 or so rounds out of it, I fired close to 20, man that thing was sweet!! I dont even remember some of the guns as there were so many there.

Anyway I just wanted to share, what was for me, a really cool day.

50 cals rock!!!!

The only problem with firing them is then you find out you like it, and you thought ars were expensive. Congrats.

Boy, Hobo hit the nail right on the head didnt he. I just can't see spending $6k-$10k for a rifle that will cost me about $5 per round to shoot.

Take up reloading?

I love 50 cals. They are so much fun to shoot. I was at an oil rig and the CompanyMan had one, the Barret M99 short barrel. We were shooting out to 1200 yards with no problem hitting the target dead nuts on. He must of had 3 or 4 ammo cans full of 50 cal ammo. In retrospect, CompanyMen average $1500 bucks a day when they are working, FWIW.

I would trade my Snap-on 14 drawer rollcab for any Barrett 50.

I got to put three rounds through an AR-50 once, at an 18"x18"x1" piece of steel plate at 600 yards. Goddamn that was a hoot!

I don't know if I hit the plate, it was plumb beat to hell from hundreds of hits. But he gave me three a/p rounds, and there were three holes through the plate, so I don't know. I like to think they're mine, but I honestly hadn't fired a large caliber scoped rifle from a bench rest in at least 35 years, and only a couple times back then.

But man, that rifle and scope were rock-solid and held on that plate like nothing I've ever seen. He had me dry-fire it a couple times, and it didn't budge.

But 600 yards is a long ways.....indulge me, willya? I like to think I hit the mf'er. Anyway, I also found three .50 penetrators layin on the berm behind the plate, those are cool souveniers to have.

Nice toys, I want.

They difinitely are fun! We set up a couple of tree stumps about 16" roundand 18" tall, out about 250 yards. We took like 5 shots at it, thinking the thing would just discinigrate. Man did we all miss this this, WTH. So a couple of us jumped on the 4 wheeler and went to take a look. 5 holes right through the thing, clean through. That was impressive.

Not a predominantly water based object. If it were, you would have seen a drastically different result. No water, no hydrostatic shock, no cool explosive effect. Gotta try watermelons at 600 yds or so. A 55gal metal barrel should be pretty cool, or if you want to get tough, an ammo can filled with water and sealed. Then the ultimate: a unopened can of beer at 1000 yds. He who hits it get the case of beer it came from.

As for 50 BMG, you haven't lived until you put a car out about 150 meters and shred it into pieces with abelt fed M2. Top it off with a couple of 40mm's and you have a junk pile.

Then there's VBIED reconstructions... 20lbs of C-4 in the vehicle, and kaboom: two days griding out a search for the bomb parts and vehicle serial numbers. It's the kaboom part that's cool. Irony of it all is the bomb parts stay in tact so well.
