Tipped off by my scanner. 17,000 people listening to FDNY dispatch.
There was another explosion in NJ earlier today

Bomb went off 5 min walk from sister in laws dorm room in Chelsea, New York just now. Her roommate felt the blast. She's fine. Hope they catch the scumbags quicker than the Tsarnaev bros.

Stolen from a comments section. I believe they sum it up correctly.
In Afghanistan and Iraq these were known as IEDs and very common place. Iran built some especially lethal designs that slaughtered your sons, husbands and friends.
In Obama's America they are labeled "intentional acts'.

My brother did forensics work with IEDs over in Iraq and Afghanistan. He was part of a group called CEXC, Combined Explosives Exploitation Cell. By analyzing the designs and electronics in the triggers they were able to trace things back to country of origin. He could tell me a lot about his job, but he had to leave that part to my imagination.
He still works for them, but I'm sure he hoped these particular skills would never be needed stateside.

Sounds like a Boston Marathon type bomb. Witnesses said they saw lots of black smoke. Dumpster may have contained the blast. Was other report of another IED made out of a pressure cooker nearby. This is merely speculation on my part and what I read on Google news.

Dang, my nephew and his new wife just moved to the married student housing in Chelsea, right near the explosion. He texted that they're ok. Big difference from their hometown, Katy, Texas. I'll be glad when they move back home.

Seems like you are correct....
"A possible secondary device was located a few blocks away on 27th Street, between 6th Avenue and 7th Avenue, the NYPD Special Operations Division said at 11 p.m. The device, a pressure cooker, was removed by authorities. It was in a white plastic bag with tape, wiring and a cell phone or other electronic device."
I have to hand it to Libs, they have really tightened the feedback loop on their social experiments.
1. Disarm the good people
2. Import bad people
3. ???
I could be on my Jump to Conclusions Mat but the trend is going this way. You can tell by the first press briefings. When they make vague/stupid statements about the act and attempt to downplay the consequences you know something's up.
Intentional Act would seem to indicate some possibility that the dumpster could have sploded on it's own.
The explosion in VA has been ruled an underground transformer cooking off.

OP maybe right, good test run for a small nuclear weapon. Gives the bombers a good idea of the response. All the Iran nuclear program has to do is produce a small backpack nuke. Remember the first attack on the World Trade Center? Truck bomb in the garage. The guy that did it, lives in SuperMax. Half hour drive away...

How many "test runs" are they going to do? There have been lots of "attacks" to get intel from as far as response times, preparedness, etc.
IF these were ISIS or other goat rapist and religion of peace and brotherhood attacks, they're just more attacks. Death by a thousand cuts.
I'm still not convinced that Acorn didn't win that election, not Obama.
Acorn was definitely part of making it happen. That and their manipulation of the census.

Nothing to do with overseas terrorism at all...
Our political leaders don't give a damn about the people killed, injured or terrorized by islamist murderers. Not until the bombs, stabbings and beheadings happen in their own sphere will they recognize and put an end to the insanity of importing muslims by the tens of thousands into our country.

Maybe they were walking and fell and accidentally made a bomb.... He said sarcastically.
it must have killed them to publish that picture and name. I pictured a bunch of libs sitting around with crossed fingers chanting "please let it be a white Christian gun owner... Please..."
HRC says that we shouldn't rush to judgment in these bombings and should wait for the facts to come out.
If this were a shooting, the judgment and clamoring to "just do something" are immediate to advance legislation as an emotional response.
I wish I could say this surprises me.
Nothing to do with overseas terrorism at all... And the stabbing spree at the MN mall...A Somali. Off-Duty cop. also a USPSA and 3Gun competitor ended it.
Ahmad Rahami, Suspect in N.Y., N.J. Bombings, in Custody: Sources (http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/breakingnews/ahmad-rahami-suspect-in-ny-nj-bombings-in-custody-sources/ar-BBwlQNz)
ELIZABETH, N.J. — The 28-year-old New Jersey man wanted in connection with a series of blasts that terrorized New York and New Jersey over the last three days was taken into custody Monday after being shot, two sources told NBC News.
Ahmad Rahami of Elizabeth, New Jersey, was identified as a suspect after a fingerprint was found on one of the devices that failed to detonate, a senior law enforcement official told NBC News.
They also found more information that pointed to Rahami on cell phones that were wired to the unexploded bombs, the official said.
"He certainly seemed to do virtually nothing to cover his tracks," the official says.
But the official downplayed any talk of Rahimi being part of a "cell" and said at this point have no idea whether anyone else was involved.
Asked whether the bombings were ISIS-inspired or directed, the official said authorities have no idea: "We're a long way from that."
Still, the FBI warned that Rahami should be considered armed and dangerous. And New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said officials could not rule out international terrorism.
"Today's information suggests it may be foreign related, but we'll see where it goes," Cuomo said on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" Monday.
Glad they caught the prick.

Quoted from the NY Times...
Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo, who said on Sunday that the attack did not appear to have a link to international terrorism, said new evidence might change that thinking.
“I would not be surprised if we did have a foreign connection to the act,” he said on CNN on Monday morning.
So wait... 5 musloids are arrested in connection with a 'terror' spree.. now with foreign connections... and it's just now front page coverage?
Why isn't my FB feed covered with people changing their photos to Old Glory's colors?

Was wondering the same thing, I'm at a loss...
Are we sure the guy's a muslim? Maybe he's just a radical catholic?
Are we sure the guy's a muslim? Maybe he's just a radical catholic?
Well it wasn't a bombing.
Therefore it wasn't terrorism.
Which means it wasn't a Muslim and thus not Islamic terrorism.
Besides, Trump said something bad this weekend, can we focus on that?

I am constantly surprised at the speed at which they identify and catch these "domestic" terrorists. They identified him within 24 hours and randomly found him sleeping outside a bar 12 hours later. If this nation's detectives operated at the same efficiency with murders and kidnappings, the unsolved crime file would be pretty slim.
Also, some media is reporting Tannerrite residue was found on the bombs. Two questions immediately come to mind. 1st) How? That stuff is pretty stable from what I understand. And 2nd) the same reports say the undetonated bombs were taken and dismantled. That does not seem like common practice. Hell, just a few months ago they found a backpack at the fed center and blew the shit out of it but all it had in it were papers. But here they decided to take it offsite and take it apart when they knew for a fact it's a bomb? Anyone here that's more educated than me have any ideas why they'd do that?
And one more thing. Thank God this guy sucked at building bombs.

Not law enforcement, not an explosives engineer, but every time I have seen any manuals or procedural documents they indicate isolate, assess, and attempt to detonate if it can be contained.
It is quite possible they attempted to detonate one of the bombs and it failed to go boom, thus giving the opportunity to test it, or felt that they lacked sufficient containment to detonate it. I have read through quite a bit of material, but as I said do not have the hands on to say why they would move it.

Maybe they just thought it was a homemade clock?

Tannerite is stable, unless mixed with certain other compounds. Impact, spark, flame, resistance ignition/detonation is all relatively easy to do if you understand it and the components you have. In some cases, x-ray and analysis (almost always remotely) can indicate the relative ease with which a device can be rendered safe and then dismantled. If the bomb tech can't tell, err on the side of safety. But if they can tell what they are dealing with, dismantling and then gaining access to other evidence which may be valuable in finding others involved may be more valuable in stopping/finding another person.
They found a fingerprint on one of the unexploded ones. Oops. New addendum in the bomb manual.

I don't think this was a test run. This was a no kidding IED planting that thankfully didn't do much damage in the way of human cost. You want to see a test run, the "suspicious" packages that were planted at the Adams County Courthouse a number of weeks back that were taken care of by our bomb squad that were filled with hard candy and bird seed, those we suspect were a test run for something.

so I have a bit of an update, apparently the bomb that was in the suitcase didn't go off because someone stole the suitcase, opened it up dumped the bomb out (disabling it) and left with the suitcase ...yeah welcome to NY.
