It cracks me up. You see NFL and NBA players sidelined for weeks with a broken finger, hand etc.
Peter Forsberg played to a Stanley Cup in 96 with a broken foot. Missed 1 game IIRC.
You have hockey players playing with broken wrists, jaws, orbitals, noses constantly. How many times have you seen a player get a stick, puck or skate in the mug and laid open to the bone, only to go back to the locker room with a trainer that stitches them back up and they are back on the ice the next period?

Plus they are just a better class of person.
