I might do things a BIT differently in bear country:
Definitely swap out bear spray with a hand cannon. And maybe swap the order of telling the story and hitting the hospital.

"Bear spray doesn't always work."
Then it sounds like a poor choice. [Shake]

One tough SOB right there.
So did the bear eat his first aid kit? He walked out 3 miles and is more concerned with recording than treating his own wounds?

A friend posted that on FB yesterday. I told her that I carry led based bear spray. It's much more effective. Also works on mountain lions, charging moose, annoying squirrels, etc.

Humans have survived like Monarch Butterflies, because we simply don't taste good.

He had a pistol on him the whole time. He hunts with it.

He lived, so sounds like the bear spray did actually work.
Bear spray is like Tabasco sauce for the unprepared...

I had a stab wound to the leg once; only thing that kept me from vomiting and passing out was focusing on the medic stitching it up while I recorded video. The act of doing something to take your mind off the reality of being open is sometimes helpful.

The pictures on his FB page are brutal. The gash on his head is bad.

I am curious what handgun he was carrying. The revolver on the FB page looks like a scoped BFR for hunting, but that would probably not be the best choice for defense.

I know it sucks to second guess someone else but...
When you can see the bear coming, why not draw the pistol? After the first attack why wouldnt the pistol be in your hand until you were in the truck?
^^^This, don't think I am going to let bear get closer than 50yds when it charged from 80.

Another guy wasattacked in WY by a grizzly this week. An elk hunter. Went back to get his elk, saw that it was moved, got jumped by a bear.
Damn.
Other folks heard him and came to help. He is in the hospital.
Damn!!! Those are some serious wounds. Takes a lot to make me cringe.
Was it a bear or Kim Kardashian?
