My wife works on campus very near Folsom Field and the Champions Center, and saw officers go by the window with drawn sidearms.
Just goes to show that "anywhere, anytime" is in full effect. Funny that the university property boundary does not turn away criminals. I wonder why...
Now the question is whether the now deceased perp was a student, transient, or other??? The Boulder Creek corridor is right next to the building in question, so a scum bag vagrant on a bad trip is not a bad bet.
At least concealed carry is an option for those who choose to protect themselves on campus.

From CU Division of Emergency Management:
An Active Harmer is an individual actively engaged in killing or attempting to kill people in a confined and populated area. In most cases, active harmers use firearms(s) and there is often no pattern or method to their selection of victims. Active harmer situations are unpredictable and evolve quickly. Typically, an immediate deployment of law enforcement is required to stop the shooting and mitigate harm to victims.
Because active harmer situations are often over within 10 to 15 minutes, before law enforcement arrives on the scene, individuals must be prepared both mentally and physically to deal with an active shooter situation.

Maybe it's just me, but I'd rather be told the truth, i.e.: "Students, watch out for someone with a gun," "Students, watch out for someone with a machete," or "Sorry to disturb you beautiful flowers, but there appears to be someone chewing gum that may spit it on the ground - please watch your step so your aura doesn't turn red."
Well obviously, but that's asking too much. Given that we're dealing with a college, this is the best we can hope for.

In other words, your self-defense is your responsibility.

We need to market a special snowflake whistle that looks just like a handgun. Blow into the barrel end when you feel offended. Should cure the boulder problem pretty quickly.

I liked CU Boulder better in the free love days when chicks were streaking across campus anytime day and night.

10 years of service, discharged as an E3. Pic shows him as an E5. Marine spokesman says "Mr. Simmons' rank at discharge is indicative of the fact that the character of his service was incongruent with Marine Corps' expectations and standards".
Sounds like a Section 8 special.
