View Full Version : Shooting spots near Fort Collins, CO?
Hello everyone! New member here, just joined about a week ago. I'm from CA but going to college up here currently. Are there any places where I can shoot in the Roosevelt National Forest that are 500+ yards for my long range guns? Or at least any spots that I can drive to that are about 30-100 yards for my ARs? thanks a lot if you know any! I'm also looking at going to the Pawnee Sportsman Center for long range but would rather be in the mountains on a setup. I was spoiled in CA, my friend had a ranch where you could take a shot at a mile if you felt up to it! Thanks for the input in advance.

Here you can shoot your AR in public, without being arrested for an evil assault weapon.

from the East Bay Area of Commiefornia unfortunately, and thanks for the range link. I've seen it before, but wanted to see if I could find any spots on forest land first
Dads gulch up highway 14 has a spot. I don't think you'll get that sort of distance though. Look for a white rock on the west side of the road.

If you're up for it, there's an outlaw 3-gun competition out at Pawnee this Sunday.
I usually shoot at Great Guns once a month, taking over a bay for steel and paper practice. You're welcome to join me and sometimes a few others.

JJ is no longer associated with Pawnee, who's ramrodding these now?
Some of the regulars are taking it over.

If Big John comes online, he can explain, but he said last time they were done with all four stages by 1:30 PM. That works for me.
What happened to JJ?
JJ moved down south to pursue other avenues of firearms business.
East Bay...remember East Bay Grease? Of course not! That was WAY BACK in the 70's, Tower of Power. When the East Bay was my stompin' grounds.
I'm in Ft. Fun also, get in touch if you want to shoot some paper or steel, or trap, or skeet. I shoot at Pawnee, but I have unused guest passes every year.
thanks for all the replies guys! Don't have my guns up here yet because I'm currently at CSU, but once I get them up here I might take you up on the range days

I had to reply to this post even if it's 6 weeks old...
You really should take Alpha up on his offer. He took me out to Pawnee one time and brought along his dualing tree. He's such a gentlemen that he let me win over and over!

PS. If you see an XL Carhart coat out there, it's mine. I still miss that thing! I left it lay on some hay bales out by the cowboy setup.

Didn't see it yesterday. The wind probably blew it over towards Hbar's area.

I shoot in Loveland at the indoor range, only 25 yards but it's inside so it's nice in the winter or after work. Pawnee is a nice set up. Best thing is to find some friends with land, I go to an 80acre plat about 5 miles north of Wellington

The grasslands are an awesome place to go if you feel you just don't have enough risk in your life. Be sure to just pull off the road (within 10 feet, of course) anywhere you damned well please. You don't even need to check for other people over the marginal incline you are using for a backstop; they'll figure it out when they go down range.
It is for these reasons I really really like Pawnee Shooting Sports so much. Enough lead in my diet as it stands. I live in Windsor, and would be glad to join you and Alpha2 some time in the near future at Pawnee SS. Jim might even be willing to join as well. We have all the cool toys you wish you had in college, and you no doubt have the youth we wish we had right now.
