Has anyone donated a car for a worthy charity? How does one go about doing so, and which charities are honest and worth donating to?

I have an 02 Outback sedan H6 that still runs, but needs more work than I can currently provide. I'm thinking donation is a better option than selling to a parts
lot or Subby repair shop.

I'm not knocking donation but my tax pro said it's not worth it financially.

Denver Rescue Mission might be interested in a car donation.

Step 13 has a program. Contact them and they will walk you through it.

I have donated 3 cars to charities and it was pretty simple and the tax benefits were marginal at best. But I was willing to help people out and save myself the frustration of selling a junker. Which one? There are several that take cars. If you go this route, do a quick search and find the local charity that appeals to you, look up their rating here: http://www.charitynavigator.org/

We donated a minivan to Kars for Kids, which benefits Jewish children charities. Tax benefit was marginal...especially since we could have sold it for more than we got in a tax deduction....

If charity is the goal, it seems selling it outright and then giving the money to said charity for the actual higher $ value is the answer.

If not dealing with selling is the goal, ymmv.

Thanks y'all. Gives me pause to reconsider. As CavSct1983 points out, I could sell it for more then donate the funds.
