Springfield Armory has just announced they are making an AR15 rifle.

I'm personally very excited to get my hands on one. It's about time Springfield.

My issue with this is that I have read multiple people online bashing SAI for the handguard failure. Shouldn't it be Bravo company taking the hit for a crappy plastic keymod HG? Don't get me wrong, I love BCM, but looks like they failed on this part.
It's an intriguing option to counter the 6920. Mid length is cool. MSRP is $900ish, right? 1/8 twist barrel so they split the difference. Doesn't seem like a bad rifle if you don't want to deal with building your own or if you want to add a decent factory built rifle to the stable.
Seems kind of "eh" to me overall. Just another mid price point AR, albeit one with an ugly rollmark on the right side of the lower. Not awful, but nothing that really makes it stand out either.

I do like seeing that we've finally started to get away from that m203 cut barrel nonsense.

That and 240 rounds in one course of fire, shot as fast as possible. My plastic Colt handguards would probably see some damage under those conditions.

Its a nice looking carbine. That said, I don't know about the timing of entering the AR market today.

Why get excited? Any Joe with internet access and a basic tool kit can build a better AR for $600 or less.
I guess one might say that the Saint was not made for hellfire.

got to handle one over the weekend. Meh. Really nothing special for a $900 off the shelf Ar. According to the 2 shops I visited that carry them, they are selling very well.

I think they updated the round count to 450 rounds in rapid fire based on the review...here is a snipit of that post
[Edit: Springfield informed me that they reviewed the “Field of Chaos” footage and apparently I went through fifteen, 30-round magazines! While this strikes me as not only possible, but probable, we’re working on getting the raw footage.]

And yet basic carbines still sell. Hmmm...

Decent quality for the price but the Ruger AR556 seems to be the best bang for the buck to me for the price. Easy to upgrade furniture to something you want. For an entrance rifle or for someone new to it.
I read some reviews that there were some feed problems early on with Ruger AR556, have they taken care of that?
I have a friend looking to buy a complete rifle in the $500-$1000 range and there a lot of options. Was considering the Saint and SW MP as they seem decent. I built mine a couple of years ago, he would rather just buy complete and I am just not up on the latest news, reviews, etc other than the two I mentioned. Looking for 5.56 chamber, 16" barrel, 1:7 or 1:8 twist, basic hand guard is fine, mid length gas system, collapsable stock, flat top. Any advice would be great.
I think he could lego together a rifle with better components for the same cost as buying one complete.
Probably so, but he isn't interested. A bit impulsive on wanting to get it done now kind of a thing. Think the Armalite is what he landed on. thanks
No advice, but I'd reiterate, forget completely piecing together. But just seperate upper/lower (2 items) will still give him probably more options for getting close to exactly what's wanted. (IE one brand with the right stock/grip and finding one with the right handguard setup.
