Depending how the election goes. The only retaking i will be doing is of our liberties.

The only saving grace is there is a lot of "stay out of my business" libertarian leanings here, even while they want progressive handouts.

Yeah, I don't get that at all. Why do people think they can have both.

Stuck with dems and slowly becoming essentially the eastern California, just lagging behind by about two - three decades. So many line item D voters that thanks to Amendment 64, there's no question need asked.

We'll be fine right up to when they finally get rid of TABOR Then we'll make California look like a bunch of pikers and we won't be East California but North Venezuela. I doubt we'll ever be the free state I moved to back in aught-two.

This will give you an idea. Here are the voting trends for CO:

2012: 51.5% Democratic / 46.1% Republican
2008: 53.7% Democratic / 44.7% Republican
2004: 47% Democratic / 51.7% Republican
2000: 42.4% Democratic / 50.8% Republican

Amendment 64? I'm blank on that one.

Legalization of pot. It's caused at least 100,000 people to move here, the vast majority of which are Democrats.

Thanks! You are right about that. I just cannot believe people would move from another state just to smoke pot. I'm sure they did not find it that hard to get where they lived before. But to move your entire place of residence just to get high?? I just can't process that.

One can only hope that CA also votes for legalization and helps reduce the pot head migration to CO.

I would tend to agree with you, but then again we are not freeloading libtards. See Exhibit A:

The "needy" lady of the house (turns out she was 22) came out to greet me while I was filling the tank. 3 dirty little kids, youngest was just past toddler stage to about 5 or 6 for the oldest (mom started very young apparently...but never confirmed they were all hers, either) were outside, running around out of control...
[...snip...]

Being polite I mentioned I had recently moved to the area as well from CO and loved it. She got very excited..."That's where we're going as soon as we can get gas money! It's easy to get public assistance there and we can smoke without getting arrested."

Interestingly, California's marijuana-legalization ballot proposition is also #64. It's expected to pass.

Arizona, Maine, Massachusetts, Montana, and Nevada also have MJ legalization on their ballots this year.

Pot passes in CA and it will be a huge relief for us here.

You would be amazed how religious a large percentage of pot smokers are about their weed.

Just look at how many NFL players lost their careers because they wouldn't put down the devil's lettuce.

Or, we will be stuck with Dems forever?

Depends on the methodology and who "us" is.

I have little to no faith in the GOP, especially the CO GOP. At least for now, I have little hope in turning the Progressive tide in CO.

I really like the path Casper Stockham is on and I hope he beats DeGette, but also, he is potentially a new breed of Conservative that is emerging. At least from what I have seen, the group here is largely comprised of fiscal conservatives. But, on social issues, it goes from Progressive to Monk. IF the GOP can get back to small government and leave the social issues alone for a while, they might have a chance. Tea Party, Libertarian and some other parties have produced some candidates that are Constitutional absolutists (don't know if that is a used term, but it fits) that seem to be good. Personally, the Constitution Party platform is the one I agree with the most, however I think that they are totally wrong on the issue of marriage and it never should have been a Federal issue at all. Also, the more I look at it, the more I think that the Portugal model of decriminalization of drugs (at the Federal level) makes more sense.

The legislature won't change without a major change in the districting map, which can't happen without a friendly Supreme Court, which can't happen without conservative appointments. The Democrats knew what they were doing in this state. The Republicans can pick up seats in some elections, but as a whole the Democrats have the power. Fortunately, TABOR keeps them honest, at least for now.

I heard Rosen on 850KOA mention something about 71 that is to raise the requirements for amending the state constitution. While the language does increase the percentage to make changes it also lowers the percentage needed for the state house to make changes...ie with a simple majority the current legislation could gut TABOR. We will see if his interpretation is right.

I understood it to be votes from the people could overturn the amendments in the same fashion they were passed, but a new amendment would need 55% of the votes to pass. It would not be possible for lawmakers to overturn an amendment, but the courts can.

its the only amendment I agreed with.
