Anyone been to the Costco Business place on Alameda? It's where the old Lowe's used to be about 1/2 a mile East of Federal.

When people joke about Costco/Sam's, etc., this is really the place they're talking about--this is truly the place of the 5 gallons of soy sauce.

67781

This place is larger than a regular Costco and even has different hours (7-6 M-F, 7-4 Sat, closed Sunday). It's got a lot of the same stuff as a regular Costco, but also more commercial stuff for restaurants, office supply, etc. There's no food court, no freebies, etc. But what they have frequently is larger sizes of the stuff you might need for preps, etc. They actually have full frozen lambs, too:

The walk-in freezer is larger than the average Walgreens--in fact, they anticipate you'll be in there long enough that they provide coats for you to wear.

One thing they have is giant containers of spices, obviously for a restaurant. Why do you need 4.5 lbs of dried onion? Well, if you're making rubs, etc., you go through a lot of it. 8 ounces is $6 at Wal-Mart. Here's 9X that amount for $13.

67783

What's interesting is the place is a ghost town. This was at around noon today. Probably fewer than 10 people in the store.

67784

Also, since there's nobody there, the employees seem to jump at human contact--i wheeled up to the check out and both lanes were open--and both tried to get me to come to their lane. Didn't even have to unload the cart.

I've been to one in Nevada before, we were in a hurry and they didn't have what we needed so we didn't stick around to check it out. I thought it was restricted to those with commercial accounts; is that still the case?

I don't think so--I don't have a commercial account and had no problem.

Full frozen lambs? I am kind of into that. Do they have huge bags of good quality salt?

I can't say that I saw any, but wasn't looking, either.

Yes, full frozen lambs

Wow. Sounds like it is worth a trip just for the fun of it. Thanks.

A few months ago I was in the Parker Costco looking for bags of salt. Spoke to an associate when I couldn't find any and he told me to visit the Costco Business Center. Have yet to go there but expect it to be there. They furnish supplies for restaurants and no restaurant is going to buy salt by the ounce, they'll buy it by the 5 gallon buckets.
from what I saw you didn't need a business license to shop there neither; just regular membership.

You want bulk buying w/out having to pay any membership fees.

Shamrock foods

That costco (minus the color coded racks) looks liks a SFSW. Only a lot bigger. Those shamrock places are maybe 1/4 in size

Most importantly, did they have Hershey's Chocolate Syrup in the 8 lb can? I miss Sysco down here in the 'springs for that reason.

Shamrock is another I've been recommended to and need to go there and check it. Looks good just need to see what they have on hand. I'm in the market for large amounts of salt.

The Ft Collins store told me if it's a stocking item,or their vendors carry it. They would be happy to order what i required, quantity wise.

*Restaurant Depot is wholesale only. To qualify for a free membership account, on your first visit you need to show a valid reseller's permit (business license) or tax-exempt certificate (for a non-profit organization) and show proof that you are authorized to purchase for said business or organization

Gotta go there again for our Super Bowl wings this week.

Jonesy - if you want salt - go to the Asian market at Ifliff and Hampden. They have (or at least had) 50 lbs bags for cheap. A great source anyway for all kinds of "stuff".

Went here again today. This place is sweet. I wont be going to the regular Costco anymore. The Business center has no crowds, 95% of the items I normally get at Costco and lots more that the regular costco doesn't carry.

Example - thick nitrile gloves. $13.99/100

Colorado Springs now has a Shamrock FSW (food service warehouse).
It opened last Tuesday in the old Office Depot/ Social Security building on the NE corner of Galley and Academy.
Open M-Sa 0600-2000, Su 0700-1900

Costco business center is A LOT less expensive on similar items. I wen to both last week and was shocked on how much more Shamrock was. I actually won’t be going back.

The Business Center reminds me a LOT of how Sam's Club was in the early days. Real discounts on real bulk items, without a million people and their 7 million kids doing their grocery shopping.

Fine, what's the shelf life of an opened 5 gallon container of soy sauce? (in decades, not years).

I don't know about that, but I can remember buying kikkoman in one gal metal cans and Frank's in one gal glass bottles.

One of the opened cans of soy got "misplaced" at the back of the wrong shelf, and wasn't discovered for about 2.5 - 3 years.

It had gotten a fair amount stronger due to some evap, but there was no growth of anything strange, or even leakage from the can. Try as I may to convince momma it was fine to use, even after decanting to a clear glass jar and cutting can top for inspection, I only got to use about 2 cups before she threw it away.

YMMV, especially in a plastic 5g bucket. ;-)

ETA: We don't use nearly enough of either of the above to justify buying those quantities any more.

Well, maybe the soy still...

I have a 2 gallon plastic jug of Franks that I've been working on for at least a year. Might even be my second one.

Are you supposed to refrigerate Sriracha? The one I keep in my pantry is the color of maple syrup.

soy sauce is so salty, it's shelf life only equaled by plutonium
