Looks like 70 - min wage, and 106 - suicide passed.
106 I can agree with, but most of the rest are either bad or worse. 71 I would have supported, but I think was very badly written. At least Coloradocare failed.
As usual, Rapsheet Rhonda maintains her seat.
72 - Tobacco Tax voted down
Looks like 107 passed and 108 will pass - Open Presidential Primaries/Unaffiliated Voters in Primaries
Amendment T is surprisingly close.
Amendment T is surprisingly close.
That is a potential civil litigation cesspool waiting to boil over, should it pass.
Amendment T sounded good at first glance, but seems to me like it would get rid of community service and other valuable programs to the public and the criminally charged.

And potentially open the door to litigation on the behalf of incarcerated individuals who were forced to perform "slave labor" while incarcerated. We all know there are lawyers out there chomping at the proverbial bit to get their fingers into city, county and state wallets.
Just my take on it.
I honestly can't even remembered how I voted for Amendment T. Pretty sure I voted against it. I think 71 was one of the only things I voted for.

Sure the Lawyers will always get their cut, even before this attempt. As someone who has gotten community service instead of jail time and fines, this does not help anyone except the lawyers.
I was happy that 71 passed. The ability to tweak the system with a simple majority by putting special measures into a Constitution was not the best idea.
Unfortunately, 107 and 108 made it in this cycle. Yes, I know the Republican party in this state hasn't done a good job of making its members feel at all empowered to be part of the process. I hate open primaries since parties end up with candidates they don't really want. I also don't want taxpayer money paying for the parties' candidate selections.
Minimum wage passed, idiots just raised prices on all of us and priced high school kids out of their job market.
I'm glad 71 passed.
69 went down.
106's passing is apropos for what we did with the Presidential election w/ CO going Clinton, and the passing of the minimum wage. God help the state of CO. Moving as soon as I can. Last night's election provided a good map of where to go.

Agree with this portion.

I won't be moving since 69 went down in flames (BIG FREAKING FLAMES). I'm disappointed that the minimum wage bump and 107/108 passed but not so much that I'll have a conniption over it. I didn't understand the opposition to 71 from some conservatives -- they were claiming it was a backdoor way to get rid of TABOR but that could already have been done with a simple majority amendment pushed out from Denver. 71 set the bar higher than a simple majority and I think it should have gone higher for constitutional amendments.
I was against 106 but it was honestly a waste of ballot space -- have you ever heard of someone being prosecuted for committing suicide? For that matter, the only doctor I've ever heard of being prosecuted for assisting was Kevorkian and it seemed to me most public opinion was on his side.
Nothing in the state stuff will make me move immediately. Really only the state run healthcare amendment would have made us up and leave that quickly. I thought 71 could have been written better, but I'm glad it at least prevents the Denver/Boulder area from being able to dictate to the rural counties as much, and gives them a small voice. 107/108 I can do without. I prefer primaries, but think you should have to be a party member to vote in one, and I'm an unaffiliated voter. Minimum wage wasn't a surprise, but the ones that will be hurt the most will be those who currently make at or just over the target wage. They will see their hard work dry up as others with less skills and experience will catch up to them in wages and their purchasing power will drop as prices correct for higher labor costs.

My guess is that the minimum wage law will hit rural areas hardest. I doubt there are that many people in the big cities making minimum or even close to it. Seems like everyplace is hiring.
Small towns with lower costs of living are going to see their prices go up while middle-class incomes remain flat.
Glad 71 passed. Hopefully it will prevent another Amendment 69 from making it to the voters. That is a truly scary proposition.

So suicide for unskilled jobs and small businesses AND grandma! Yay!
So suicide for unskilled jobs...
After the robots take their jobs...maybe they won't have the will to keep on living.
I'm looking forward to being charged $14 for a happy meal. Not to mention higher prices for groceries and everything else. Raise it all you want and minimum wage will still be minimum wage. Minimum wage workers will probably be shocked when they make more money but it doesn't go any further than it did before. At least I'll probably get a raise to keep up with the cost of living so hopefully I won't be any worse off while the minimum wagers aren't any better off.
Federal minimum wage is $7.25 per hour. Colorado current minimum wage is $8.31 per hour. McDonalds in Thornton starting pay is $10 per hour.
In the metro area, who is getting paid minimum wage?
Prices go up so the workers making minimum wage can't afford the products they make. I predict that as the minimum wage increases the poverty level income will increase and therefore government payments to unemployed and disabled will increase. Taxes will need to be increased and this help drive inflation. When the same amount of work that used to cost $10 per hour now costs $12 per hour, your money is worth less. But many of us already know that our money is worthless.
I wanted to see primary voting, but only for affiliated voters. IMHO, there's too much potential for unaffiliated voters to poison the well in primaries.
OTOH, it's not like it was difficult to participate in the caucus if you wanted...
Now that open primaries are the standard fare, I can't think of any downside to changing my party affiliation to "Independent". What am I missing?

Probably MORE phone calls during the election cycle.
I had more people knocking on my door than calling during this past cycle.

How does the balance of power look in the state legislature?

I felt the same way. I voted for primaries, but against unaffiliated. And that's as an Independent voter...

Pretty much. There would be a ton of people trying to get into that class action lawsuit.
Everybody should be treated like a human, even a convicted criminal.
Take a breath, Ridge... We're talking about "perceived" (by the incarcerated individuals) "slave labor" (i.e. anything they didn't want to do, that may have been a part of the daily routine).

Why are you acting like I'm freaking out when I made a simple statement of my opinion?

Just making sure you were clear on the intent of my opinion. Face it, your comment was a little passive-aggressive. My feels were hurt, and I needed to create a safe space so I don't have frightmares when I go to bed tonight.[Coffee]
It was a little passive aggressive, I'll admit that.

I think its stayed the same. Republicans run the Senate and Dems the house.
Everybody should be treated like a human, even a convicted criminal.
Then we need a complete overhaul of the "legal" system. However, retributive justice can be fine, but it should be coupled with rehabilitative justice as well -- that includes work.

Yeah but what if you are different than they are, or you don't understand them? Then it's okay to treat them subhuman, right?
Edit: Well, it seems this thread took off in another direction before U responded trying to be funny.

After they made restitution to their victims.

Did Repubs have any net gains (or losses) in either house? My google-fu is weak right now.

As someone who has worked in a jail, I can tell you that these men and women are treated as well as any other incarcerated individual. Typically, these people earn time off of their sentence by working for the detention facility. I've seen people only serve 1/2 their sentence due to working for the jail.

IIRC they picked up 2 or 3 seats in the house and that's it ... lemme see if my google-fu is better than your google-fu
Edited to add: http://www.denverpost.com/2016/11/08/colorado-legislature-balance-election-results/
Republicans appeared close to maintaining their one-vote advantage in the Colorado Senate, with two seats in the chamber looking to flip political allegiances and thus canceling each other out, according to unofficial election results posted Wednesday.
At the same time, Democrats looked ready to extend their three-seat control in the state House — 34-31 — portending another two years of split governance at the capitol. Late Wednesday, it appeared Democrats Democrats would claim three more seats in the House.
