Do you think it would be feasible to pass such a thing? I know that revenooers wouldn't take too kindly to such an idea. The liquor industry wouldn't take too kindly to it, and NIMBYs wouldn't take too kindly to it either; I'm sure that they'd try to paint stills as being worse than meth-labs.
I also know that I've been polluting this sub-forum with numerous threads. [Abused]
Even though I probably wouldn't distill my own booze (if it were legal), I'd enjoy the option to do so. I also imagine that we'd see a craft spirits craze here in Colorado. IIRC, you can distill up to 100 gallons of alcohol for personal consumption in Missouri.
I think this is getting into Federal territory...but so is pot. [Poke]
Dunno. What would the downside dangers be? Would they be overcome easily or would a bunch of DIYers suddenly go blind? Only thing I've ever done is make my own cyser (mead made with apple juice added).

I would support such an initiative. People may have been distilling spirits since the early Iron Age. It's not rocket science. I saw two "M.A.S.H." inspired stills in campus housing while in college. Sure the big distillers would likely oppose it, but I don't think there would be any more injuries than what has occurred with the legalization of pot.
See Whiskey Rebellion - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whiskey_Rebellion
One of the first federal taxes and almost instantly unpopular and forced the federal government to call for troops to put down the rebellion. If you obey all the government rules and pay them their taxes, you can distill all you want. I'm not sure how cost effective your operation would be after dotting all of their i's and crossing all of their t's.
One state I don't know which off the top of my head has state level distillation allowing up to 200 gallons including wine and beer

That's weird, considering that neither wine nor beer are "distilled".
I think it is wrapped up into the total gallons just like we as home brewers in co can only make 200 gallons of beer and wine a year for personal consumption let me find the state that allows it

CIP, DIP
From what I know, beer and wine up to XX gallons is fine but spirits of any kind are a federal no no. They know what's best for you, you see.

IIRC, over half of the cost of a bottle of distilled spirits is due to taxation.

Workable and possible - just not likely, so far.
Many other countries have home exceptions for non-commercial private production, like USA does for brewing and wine-making, and mead.
Maybe the #Donald will crush the elitist barrier to entry for stills?
Just do it and don't tell nobody.
Just do it and don't tell nobody.
If we have seen anything with drunk posts, that wouldn't work.

Just do it and don't tell nobody.
Yeah, and do it on the way way WAY down low.
A buddy of mine in Arkansas decided he wanted to get into distilling. Nothing crazy. Just as a hobby and for his own consumption.
He ordered a bunch of distilling equipment from various big name companies on the web.
And he got a warning letter a few months later from the ATF.
True story.

You can legally distill to make your own ethanol for fuel (like for your vehicle) if you get a permit to do so (free, apparently). If some accidentally spills into your mouth.....whoops!
