View Full Version : Full Auto Guns Stolen
http://kutv.com/news/local/atf-offers-10000-reward-for-2-fully-automatic-rifles-stolen-in-west-jordan
(KUTV) Many thousands of dollars of firearms were stolen from a West Jordan gun store, including two fully automatic rifles.
"They're the kind of rifle, where if you pull the trigger once, they'll continue to fire until it runs out of ammunition," said Sgt. Joe Monson with the West Jordan Police Department.
We've all wondered why shop owners don't lock up their stock after hours. But if you have full auto items in your inventory you'd think the owner would take extra special care to keep them locked up. I'm totally baffled by this.
edit: apparently I can't type can a mod fix the title to read "stolen" please?
We thought that's just the way you talked...[Coffee]
I typically drop my Rs but not Ns.

You are spot on and especially with the current known trend over the past year of all these burglaries.
Hopefully this ring of thieves is picked up sooner than later by an agency.
I'm assuming they were post samples or something? Someone would have to be crazy not to lock up transferables.
[snip]
But they might get scratched.

Flawless Tactical? Too much over confidence in the name.

post-samples are damn-near throwaway to dealers, unless they constitute some rare and desirable parts kits, after-the-fact.
postie M16? give up the $100 receiver, and the rest is parts and gravy.
Forgive my ignorance but I'm a few beers in and having trouble connecting the dots...why are transferrables no more valuable than anything else?
Post samples, not transferables.
So a post sample is basically just the auto sear conversion?
It can be. Anything after May of 1986 is a post sample.

Transferables are a fixed quantity, those on the registry prior to May 1986. Pure supply and demand for their high cost. Post may, they are still being made, so quantity is not limited ( but ownership is). The physical difference between a machine gun and a semi auto can be just a couple of small items, hence not much more cost than a semi auto to manufacture.

Change out a sear, trigger, and safety (probably a couple parts i'm forgetting) and you can charge big bucks for small parts that probably cost pennies more to make.

Anyone feel free to correct me if necessary.
Almost never gonna be a transfer tax on post-samples, since they can only go to dealers/gov't/LE, and the seller has to get rid of them before giving up SOT status. Between SOTs is tax free, as is any transaction involving a government entity.
Pre-samples can go tax-free if the seller gets rid of them before giving up their SOT, or tax-paid, if after, but still can only go TO an active SOT/LE/gov't.
