Just curious, is it worth $715 to recore my 30CB7? I have never shot an ULTRA before.

That's what I was thinking, that it would just be better to get another/stamp/wait for that amount of money. I just wanted confirmation on that thought!

A little tough to justify on my 30BA, too. Maybe for $400, but not where it's at now. Especially if the weight is an average.

Knowing the process that they use to build their cans here is a little insight to the process and cost .

The Ti tubing used is a standard OD but there is an acceptable range of wall thickness for the spec . When they construct new cans the tubing is all from one batch and has the same ID . That means when the baffle stack is made there is one set up on the machine for the whole run for the baffle stack OD.

When a can is repaired / recored the outer tube must be preserved because of ATF regulations so disassembly of a welded can is more work than you would think with cutting the welds and pressing the old core out . Then the machine needs to be set up to run the ID / OD combo for the new stack , basically every recore is a one off custom setup .

IIRC Shane told me there is approx double the labor in repairing / recoring a can than building a new one .

I don't think anyone doubts that it's an expensive process. It's just that they had been quoting cheaper prices before as one-off projects, and the new pricing is meant to bring it to "sustainable" pricing. Thing is, at these levels, they might actually have made "one-off" a literalism.

Probably wait around for the HYPER-SUPER-MEGA cores to come out before I'm convinced to hop in. Maybe it's their fault that they made the earlier ones so nice. If only they could get the weight savings into the recores; that would maybe convince me.

I just got my 30PS back from Ray at TBAC.

They had it less than a week to upgrade to the ultra baffle stack, convert to brake attach from direct thread and cerakote black again.

My initial impressions were that the can was much lighter now and the machine/welding was top notch. You couldn't even tell that anything had been done. The cerakote looks perfect, not like it was painted with Krylon.

I took it to the range today for its first test fire.

The first rounds were through a 9 inch 300 Whisper M-16A1 shooting 175s and AA-1680. Very quiet. Much quieter (very noticeable) than the old baffle stack. Before it was a bit loud with no ear-pro. Now it sounds like 220s going through a 9 inch can.

I put it back on the original rifle (Accuracy International PSR) after I put the brake attach mount on. There was minimal shift from the old 30PS zero to the new one even with an added brake and baffle stack.

My only challenge now is to not get it confused with my 223 and 6.5 Ultra 7s.

In the end, the $$$ involved is absolutely worth it to save some weight and a few Db. Dealing with the staff at TBAC is always awesome. Must be something in the air up there.

I'm considering it. I have a direct thread that I want to be a brake attach. For me, it may well be worth the expense to get it reconfigured while also getting the performance gains.

Thinking about doing this mainly because I want to switch my 30p-1 from DT to break attach. Some weight and DBsavings would be a bonus
