View Full Version : Appleseed in School 2017
Alcon,
That time of year again to start prepping for the annual event at my school. More details to follow, but here's the basics:
May 1-4, 2017. Range day is Wed, May 3.
- Teachers drop the curriculum and have 3 days to teach ANYTHING
- I choose firearms and the history of the American Revolution
- we invite Appleseed to come out and we discover the true story of the American Revolution and our heritage
- we learn about the Three Strikes leading up to the War, and about the personal stories of the "heroes" and "enemies" of the Rev. War
- we learn gun safety and basic marksmanship skills
- we end the week with a day at the range with 30-50ish kids live firing .22lrs
- usually get to break out some toys at the end of that session and let the kids have some fun (M1's, M4's, .50's, Tannerite, etc)
- some activities include symbology and kids making their own flags, learning about smelting and making their own cartridges, etc. Lots of good times.
I kindly ask for volunteers and donations. Several members here have been WONDERFUL helps in the past both backstage and foreground. Much respect.
Stay tuned for more info!!!
** Update: The ammo goal is ALREADY reached! Thank you soo much to 9fmmj for the donation! With the leftovers from last year, we have reached this goal in record time!
** Update: We still need some financial help. Thanks to those few who've already donated! You are sooo appreciated! Y'all need to come out and see what we do!
** If you are volunteering and have a .22lr or four, we could use them if you'd like to bring them. PLEASE
*** The range we used last year is a no-go (was shutdown late last year). We will be at a new one this year, if you are volunteering, please PM me and I'll share the info as to where we will be. Thank you. BTW, New range = new rule: They do NOT allow Tannerite on their range... so I'll leave it home. Now cannons on the other hand... __________________________________________________ __________________________________________________ ____________

As usual, I will donate some cash & .22 lr. ammo, this always seems to happen when I am on-call and cannot take off work.
I'm in for $$. Tell me when and where to send. V

Not this time but I do appreciate the offer. Keep bugging me and I will cave eventually and come out.

So bugging for four years doesn't count? Ok, we'll try for next year. Same time... always the week before Spring break - so the second week in March. [blah-blah][beatdeadhorse][Beer]
I am the dead horse right?

Didn't realize you had leftover ammo from last year. I could still use a letter acknowledging the case I gave you for my taxes. Thanks.

Looking forward to it. Did hurt my little feelers that standardized tests booted it off my birthday though.
Date change means lead minion will be able to attend, makes it all better.

Dude, don't even get me started with the standardized testing... such a waste of resources, time, etc... I'm glad minion will be able to come again!

PM inbound. We have met our projected quota for this year based on the number of kids, but I'll never say "no". I can save it for next years and be that far ahead! PM inbound! Thank you!
About a month out. It's not too late to volunteer to help out if you get the chance. Range day is Wednesday, May 3rd. It's not too late to show some financial love as well. Thank you for your time and consideration.
Any questions, please ask.
I'll get a check out tomorrow. Same mailing address as last year?

Rgr, school or me is fine. Just make sure you specify and all that jazz if sent to school. You rock, THANK YOU. Coming out this year?
Anyone happen to know if there are places that'll loan/rent a few .22lrs (10-15x)? There "might" be a conflict with traditional source due to some newly scheduled meets, etc... Won't know for sure until a mid-month board meeting but I'd like to have a backup just to CYA.
Thoughts?
Danke.
What are the requirements for the rifles?
M&P 15-22 ok? Savage bolt action w/3-9 scope OK?

Duh Bear... that would be pertinent info huh? We prefer bolt action with irons as the more traditional role. But we understand that times/people/requirements change so we will use ANY .22lr available, even if they have optics. I bring out my lil TacSol with suppresor, it has a 3x9 on it too, that the kids enjoy. I would have to ask about the M&P, the AR style sometimes if hard for kids to get into prone with cause of mag size, etc... I'll get back to you on that one.

NO handguns. We do rifle only. Adults aren't even allowed to bring pistols to the end of day "shoot 'em if you got 'em". It's just a safety factor as we teach muzzle discipline, etc...
Thanks for the offer though!

Bear --
I have the same rifles you borrowed last year (Win 52s, Moss 44USes, Kimber 82Gs) plus a Savage Mk II with 3-9x scope. Unfortunately, I have to fly out of town Monday so we'd have to hand off on Sunday if you were to borrow them.

I love you... in a non-homo sort of way... damn hippy, lol. PM is inbound. I still owe you a few beers or something from last year.
Only a few short weeks out. Volunteers - Please send me a PM with your real name and contact info (even if you know I already have it) please so I can add you to the official (cue dark music) GUEST/VOL LIST for the range day. Please let me know if you'd like to come to the school for any of the other days as well so I can make sure you're cleared for that too!
If you haven't heard, we will be using the Westcliffe range this year due to Avondale being shut down/out of business.... sometimes I wish I would win the lotto (because I'll never get there with a teachers salary, HAHA!), go buy some land and build my own... one day.... Anyways, if you need the address, PM me!
Not too late to donate either, way down this year.
Thanks all. YOU guys are what makes this event so fun for the kiddos every year.

Bunch of good kids, fair weather(could have done without the wind) and a nice little range.
No better way to spend the day.
Satisfying to see the kids starting to understand the history of our nation's founding and relate it to the tools that helped win that freedom.
