View Full Version : Need website developed using Wordpress templates
Hi,
Do we have anyone that could help me develop a basic informational website using Wordpress. All I need is something basic, no e-commerce just a few informational pages and a contact page.
thanks,
Griff

Are you going to be hosting on wordpress.org, or your own account somewhere else?
I'm hosting on e-host, but could change. Do you do this type of work?

I have in the past, and I'm mostly wondering why wordpress. My concern is, they're most likely to get hacked out of all the popular content management systems. I'd feel more secure using Drupal than WP for what sounds like a fairly static website. I've been called in several times recently to recover WP sites that have been defaced.
Gotta agree with Chad here. WP is a major attack vector for the unscrupulous and bored, be they 13 year olds with Kali Linux or someone who is more advanced.
For example, a favorite blog of mine which uses WP, but not a blog.wordpress.com url (i.e., a dedicated url), I just tried
"wordpressexample.com/?author=1" and got a content not found; appended 2 instead of 1 and voila -- their username to log in. Tried it on another site I suspected used WP. Same thing, got the admin login name. From there it's a question of brute forcing, social engineering, etc. Or, if they somehow use a SQL database for others to log in, a SQL injection to dump whatever I want if they haven't hardened against it. The admin login info is available nowhere on the sites per se, but yet, with a little copy/paste action, I had two admin logins in 2 minutes.
Here's two articles on WP:

I'd follow Chad's advice and move away from WP.
It sounds like you want something to set and forget for the most part, and that's not WP. WP needs to stay on top of updates, and even then it remains a popular vector for attack.
you know, quite honestly you could find a site and style that you really like on something like http://www.templatemonster.com/ and with the tiniest amount of knowledge you could host it yourself and just change the text to what you need it to be in the respective files. You don't need to know how to code anything.
Source: I'm a dynamic LAMP developer that makes things from scratch (even forum software). I don't do wordpress or any other platform because they incorporate needless fluff and are all a hack waiting to happen. I'm not marketing myself for this btw because I don't normally make static sites / good lamp guys aren't cheap.
ETA: depending on how you would do a contact page it can either be complicated and dynamic with email handlers (needing coding experience) or just basic phone-address-mail-to links and then you can filter a small amount of spam.
sheesh, is there anything you don't do? You're like the Dos Equis guy. Lol
