View Full Version : CCW Adams County
So I applied for my CCW through Adams county sheriff on Sep 1st. As I understand the law they have 90 days to provide me my CCW card or declination of application. If they'd put it in the mail this past Tuesday it should have been in my mail by today. I've called them a couple times to inquire. They're generally pretty rude to me and not at all helpful. Anybody have an experience like this? Am I missing something? Is there any recourse since they've violated the 90 day law? Any compliant I can file or any penalty I can invoke? Thanks.
Try to go in person and ask to pick up your permit at the same place where you applied. (Disclaimer: I'm not familiar with Adam's county, many Sherrif's dept's only do in person pickup, and they only call you once to pick it up) It's probably pretty uncommon for any SO to mail it, to be honest.
They told me it would be mailed when I applied and they said it would be in the mail by Tuesday this week (day 90) when I spoke to them on Monday. Adams county has a long and sordid history of anti-gun antics. I'd love to go pick it up myself if that would solve this.

Go there, smile, receive permit go home. That 90 days, is kind of vague. If there's a backlog you wait. Remember while state issued, it's at the discretion of the CLEO
You're only getting a permit now?

Back in 2012, they mailed me mine at like, day 89.

I think saying "state issued" is somewhat inaccurate and misleading. It is state (shall issue) law, however issued by each county, correct?
My Utah permit, now that's state issued...

I'm at day 93. Ridiculous. They sure cashed my check right quick though.
Odd. The old sheriff was a douche bag and that's really when they sucked. The new guy seems pretty cool. Even responded to an email I sent inquiring about his willingness to sign off on NFA items.
When I got my permit through Adams county about a year or so ago it showed up at my house in the mail in less than two weeks from the time I went and turned in my application.

I have never had an issue with my original application and two subsequent renewals. The first permit was right at the 90 days, both renewals were under that.
My guess is they have a backlog.
I really wouldn't stress it until it hit 120 days.
Be polite in your communications.
They WILL remember you if your not.

This.....
I just completed my renewal by mail and it was returned in three weeks.

Jeffco you have to pick it up in person. At 3 months they hadn't called so I stopped by to see if it was ready...lady at the desk wasn't happy that I stopped in without a call and told me it would be at the other desk when ready. I left... then walked back in to the the other desk...it was sitting there at the bottom of a pile of about 10 other envelopes. I got a call about a week later saying it was ready.

Correct. It's still up to CLEO the of the county you reside to (Shall) issue.
Adams got my wife her permit in about 75 days, but it took 6 days for the post office to get it from Brighton to Aurora. Don't stress over it until Tuesday or Wednesday, and don't be a PITA to the sheriff's office, as that WILL come back to haunt you in the future.

Never moved my CCW to Adams even though I moved here almost 10 years ago. I have kept it in Douglas and renewed twice now down there. Driving across the city is far easier than dealing with Adams County. My wife has been waiting for her CCW for very close to 90 days now from ACSO.

If I am not mistaken, this makes your permit invalid. They are tied to your actual physical address.
you need to hope that you are never in a situation that requires that you need to prove that you have a CCW.

As long as your permit has the correct address on it, it need not be issued by your county of residence under the old rules. My permit is issued by Jeffco (as I own a business here), but my permit shows my home address in Adams(Aurora). According to the Jeffco Sheriff's website:
Due to House Bill 14-1166 that went into effect March 14, 2014, you must submit a concealed handgun permit application (new and renewal) to the county sheriff’s office where you reside, own property or own a business.

Don't stress. They'll sign it on the 90th day then put it in the mail. I'd wait until at least 2 weeks after your 90 days before you start freaking out about it.
When I did my renewal (I did it in person since I didn't know you could do it by mail) I walked in to my appointment with the required paperwork and my old CCW and walked out with a new one.

Yeah in 2018 I have to renew in Adams. Douglas County always treated me well, very nice people down there.
Thank for the advice everyone guess I'll wait and call them middle of next week.

Odd, as when I was in Adams county - through at least three renewals - I always found them polite and friendly. Most recent renewal was in Arapahoe as the law changed on which county has jurisdiction on renewals.

Indeed.
I got mine in Adams way faster than 90 days. I don't remember the exact timeframe but it was in the 2-3 week ballpark. My expiration date is in 2018 so guessing that means I got it in 2013-2014?
Called four times today, left message. No joy.

You wonder why it's taking so long. 4x in one day, Especially on a Monday [facepalm]
Considering there were 3 national holidays for 3 & 4 day weekends, today is at the 90ish day mark.
I'd put you back a day or so, on principle.

Yep, glad you seized the high ground on this one. I guess DangerLee was right.
90 days is 90 days—that’s the law. From Sep 1st that means day 90 was last Tuesday. I don't get to blow of running a red light based on the excuse I'm too busy or in a hurry. If they can’t abide by the law then they need to find a way to remedy that or at the very least communicate there’s a delay and estimate how long.
I agree and am glad to see someone at least attempt to hold them to the law. How it will work out for you I can't say, but I'm glad to see someone try.

If it's a legal Holiday deduct that day from the calendar, deal with it. That's how is has been up in weld cty, when i inquired about turn around time. Sorry We're closed on Holidays, so we don't count that towards the 90 days.
That 90 days is Business NOT Calendar days , in weld cty.

My permit took more than 90 days. If I rember correctly it came approx 3 weeks after the 90 day period this was back in 09 when they were super backlogged with ccw's. Last time when I renewed it only took a week and new card was in my mail box.
I would reccomend you give it some time, if you go stir shit up with the man, nothing good will come from it.

The state law is 90 calendar days. I called a lawyer to research for me to make sure I properly understood the law and if I had any recourse. If you want to give Weld County a pass for their loose interpretation of the law be my guest.

Considering Weld was issuing permits long before it was state wide and signing off on NFA items, yeah they get a pass. We also (for renewal) walk in, hand old permit in, walk out with new permit.
If you're this wound up to the point of talking to a lawyer over a permit. Never get in to the NFA game. You'll have a [panic] coronary waiting.

Already done the SBR dance. Difference is they were actually helpful the couple times I called them. Haven't tried it with the new rules yet.
