Opinions wanted: ACOG vs VCOG

I'm doing some light reading on optics for the AR platform. I'd be interested in your opinions on the Trijicon ACOG vs VCOG.

The ACOG is better for a defense/tactical oriented AR and the VCOG better for a hunter/DMR type rifle with its greater magnification. I guess it depends on what you want to do with the rifle.

On my 16" AR I can't imagine a better optic than my 4 power ACOG. But if I had a more precision AR that I wanted to shoot 77gr ammo at multi hundred yards the VCOG would probably serve me better.

Most of the reviews I've read of the VCOG say that at 1X its not all that wonderful. And frankly with both eyes open my 4x ACOG works fine at close range.

No VCOG experience, but I always liked the issued ACOGs. Don't recall having problems with them, but others may have.

Here's the thing though: everything that the ACOG does well (no battery, useful power for out to ~600 yards, but useful inside 100 without having to turn any dials...) the VCOG does none of that. Price is also INSANE.

I'm interested in what people who have played with the VCOG have to say.
