View Full Version : COS Airport - Uber is drop-off only for time being
Heads up for you traveling folks: for the time being Uber is only allowed to drop off and not pick up from COS Airport.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - As of Monday, those who use Uber are only allowed to be dropped off at the Colorado Springs Airport and not picked up. New ground transportation rules and regulation are being implemented.
For the past six months Colorado Springs has been working with Transportation Network Companies, or TNCs, such as Uber and Lyft. Both Uber and Lyft work as a type of taxi service.
At this time Lyft (https://www.lyft.com/cities/colorado-springs) has executed an agreement and has officially started operating at the airport. Allowing people to use Lyft to go to and from the airport as a ground service.
Uber (https://www.uber.com/cities/colorado-springs/) drivers are only allowed to drop off passengers at the airport until an agreement is made. The airport says the delay is due to internal technology issues.
We reached out to Uber and they released the following statement:
"Every airport is unique and COS is no different. We remain in discussions with airport officials, have proposed a handful of solutions, and hope to reach an agreement soon so that Uber drivers can continue to facilitate safe, affordable rides for passengers going to and from the airport."
We also talked to a local Uber driver. He tells us he's frustrated.
"Waking up and finding out that we're allowed to drop off but not pick up made no sense to me at all, it made no sense at all," said Mark Medina. "If it's gotta be two bucks a pickup, you know, charge me two bucks."
The airport says they plan to have the issues resolved in the near future. We'll let you know what happens.

What a load of horse shit
"taxi drivers are glad to hear the news" , yea so they can do back to overcharging the shit out of you without competition

Translation: They can't figure out a reliable way to extort the drivers...

There ya have it.
LOL uber. Ever since they "protested" to get higher pay, I wont use them. Crybabies.
"I'd like a fair day's pay for my hard work," Adam Shahim, a 40-year-old driver from Pittsburgh, California, said in a statement. "So I'm joining with the fast-food, airport, home care, child care and higher education workers who are leading the way and showing the country how to build an economy that works for everyone, not just the few at the top."

Actually, they must already have a means of doing it as Lyft has an agreement. Sounds more like Uber is not agreeing to the airports terms.
So not a fan of taxi cartels and govt control of commerce.
Just wait until the Airport decides to charge people a $1 for being dropped off/picked up and say it's for road maintenance. I wouldn't be surprised if this is already accounted for in the fees they collect from airlines or whatever -- unsure how it works -- but I'd totally expect them to double dip.
How does the airport even get a say in how people arrive or leave?

Have you seen the lot Uber/lyft use at DIA, there had to be hundreds of them waiting the last few times I was there. They have to park where it can be controlled.

My taxi and cab experiences are always horrible. Shitty attitudes, shitty cars, dirty, smelly, and drive like asshats. Uber and lyft have been exceptional. I use them often.

Let me tell you about fees. My airline ticket has $58 in fees. The car rental another $79 in "fees" . Combine that with the $25 per check in bag, that's $162 out of pocket for what?

HOMELAND SECURITY & FAA. Also the City , county & state get their hands wet.

The airport already does this - $1 surcharge on any taxi ride departing the airport. Lyft got an operating agreement by agreeing to charge the $1 fee, as well. Uber will cave - might be they're trying to get it down to $.75 or something, though.

Probably more to do with how the airport is going to be sure that they get their cut from the commercial operation.

Meh, don't really care about Uber, especially with the airport offering $1/day parking for the rest of the month. I tried Uber while on vacation -- they dicked up my location despite having me clearly plotted on the map so the driver canceled the pickup (charging me $10) and I had to rebook again with the same driver. I could have gotten a regular taxi at that point.

How do they even enforce this? Unless you have a sticker or something on your car that identifies you as an Uber driver, what's the difference between an Uber driver picking up a fare and your buddy picking you up in his car?
Never used a "ride sharing" service so I guess I don't quite understand this system.

I dunno, but now I want to go hang out at COS airport w/ a sign that says:
"Uber driver for hire*
*By hire I mean I'm not taking money for rides and by Uber I mean private individual willing to give someone a ride for free, as I am not a licensed taxi driver"
Uber and Lyft have visual identifiers on their vehicles.

FIFY
Lyft actually seems to be the better of the two services. I think they're a bit more particular about the vehicles and drivers. Uber will get anyone in them right now.

Only if the driver chooses to put them there - signage is not required.
I drive part time for 2 Brothers Transportation. We are required to have a special (limo) license to access the 5th level of the lot at DIA. We have exceptional service. I would take that over any Uber/Lyft/taxi any day.

Lyft always seems to be closer to my pick up location and also tends to be less expensive.

Do
they all have that stupid mustache on their car?
Never used one myself, though I have used Uber under duress a time or two @ORD.

Last Thursday will be a great example. I live near 100th and Wads. At 10;15 a buddy wanted me to come join him at a bar which is on 92nd and wads. I already had consumed enough beverages that I could receive a dwai, so i checked on an uber and a lyft. Lyft was 10min away from my house, Uber 30. Uber was $12, Lyft was 7. Same thing to get back home at 12;45.
Not sure about a mustache on the car. I don't think they had one. Just a small window sticker.
I would have given you a ride both ways for $30, including letting you plug your phone into the stereo on your Pandora channel, and I would have let you drink in my car.
