View Full Version : Anyone seen a short gas tube on an Ak?
I can't figure out what's wrong on my pap. The front of the gas tube doesn't line up with the block on the front sight post it's almost like it's to short or my sights to far forward

From the pics it looks like your gas block has moved. I see a stripe of bare metal behind your gas block. One of your gas block pins doesn't look right either.

That's what I though I'm kinda lost here
Looks like whomever pinned your gas block on didn't do a very good job. The rear pin looks like it's not even touching the barrel (out of spec gas block?). My M92 gas block does not look like that. Hard to tell but it also looks like the pins are walking out or are not hammered in all the way.
I just looked at my M92. The pins not being flush is fine. Pins are longer than the holes they are pressed into. However your gas block has definitely worked its way forward. Your rear pin looks too low. My pins are level to each other. Did it come from the factory like that or did you shoot it and it worked loose?
Pic from online. This is what it should look like:

It's an AK. They're not known for their fit and finish.

From the looks of the second picture you can see the notch where it's supposed to be pinned. So it is set to far forward. Might have been drilled and pinned in that spot. Pop the pins out and move the sight block back until it lines up with the original notch. You may need to oversize drill and pin it back in it's place if its buggered up. Too bad you weren't any closer to me I would help you get it straight.

What Bob said ^^^
If it were me, I'd take the muzzle device off, push the pins out with a punch and see what it looks like under there... if the pins are ok and they just drilled in the wrong location, I would see if I could get the pins tight at the correct (more rearward notches).... if there's not enough "bite", then get oversize pins (can even use the shank of cheap drill bits) ... line up the notches, make sure the sight is straight (most important part) and drill to the new size and re-pin.

It's an AK. Drop it out of a 2nd story window and try again. Repeat until successful
