I live in Denver. I'm planning on getting my CCW permit in the next few weeks. Just to be sure..

- Take a CCW class.
- Take my paperwork to
Denver Police Admin Building
- Also take CO license, proof or address. Fee.

Wait...

Does this sound right?

Any good suggestions on an instructor in Denver area?

Thanks for your help!

It's easier to go to the county you live for the correct info. This way IF something is missing, you have their website to refer to.

That sounds about right but always double check the website.

I've heard that Denver makes the process more obnoxious then it needs to be.

Last I heard, you had to set an appointment to turn in your application. Conveniently, they only answer the phone that you need to call to set that appointment a couple of days a week, and appointments were about a month out. Apparently, that has now changed.

I do not live in Denver and avoid it as much as possible, but why does DPD issue the permits instead of Sheriff Firman?

Dropped my application off and received my approval letter less than 3 weeks later. Much quicker than I was expecting.

I think because Denver is a combined City and County, their permits are actually issued by the Director of Public Safety, but I could be wrong...

I have seen two Denver issued CCW cards, neither had the Sheriff Firman's name and had the seal of DPD, not DSD on them. I am really curious (and not trying to stir any pot) if there is some legal exemption for the Denver Sheriff since the law says "a sheriff shall issue" and he is not issuing any. Or is there something else going on that maybe the residents of Denver are not aware of that may make their DPD issued permits at some point become invalid at a whim of a politician.

Mine says issued by the Executive Director of the Department of Safety. On the back, it has the spiel about being issued in accordance with CRS 18-12-203(1).

Issued by an attorney? How can that comply with the law when they are supposed to be issued by a Sheriff? Even more puzzled...

What county are you in?

I just got the call today from Arapahoe County. Took the full 90 days.

When I first got my permit it was issued by Broomfield, also a city and county and it was issued by the Broomfield PD, however Broomfield does not have a sheriff.

Much as Snowman said of Broomfield, Denver is City and County. Denver is funny, as I understand it the Denver Sherriffs are more jailers and process servers. Their main job is not law enforcement. Its only recently that they've even been allowed to do off duty security.
