A rural Colorado school district has decided to allow its teachers and other school staff to carry guns on campus to protect students.
The Hanover School District 28 board voted 3-2 Wednesday night to allow school employees to volunteer to be armed on the job after undergoing training.
The district's two schools are about 30 miles southeast of Colorado Springs, and it takes law enforcement an average of 20 minutes to get there.
Other school districts in Colorado and in Texas, Oklahoma and California have also allowed teachers to carry weapons since the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre in Newtown, Connecticut.
Wednesday night's vote comes on the fourth anniversary of the shooting. Officials say the proposal has been in the works since June and the timing of the final vote was coincidental.
Good on them. From what I hear, the parents of the students wanted this.
I think it's a great idea too and the word "allow" is key.
They are doing nothing more than taking advantage of the collective benefit of CCW (bad guy doesn't know who/when/where).

I've asked the alt-gun [LOL]crowd. While part of me kind of understands your concern. Why do you have such opposition to protecting your kids?
Anal probe when flying - Check
Seat belt- Check
Fire Extinguisher - Check
Tracking your kids cell ph - Check
Security cameras on in the home, complete with alarm system - Check
Providing a Safe, Secure place for your kids - [panic] To date no one has been able to give a logical reason why they're opposed to it. Outside the usual BUT BUT GUNS crap.
Which then veers OT.
One of my East Coast "relatives" asked why i went around with a gun. My reply was, Why do you own a fire extinguisher? Fair enough was the reply ;)

Ask them why do they carry a pocketknife? That usually shuts them up also.

Those people don't usually carry a pocket knife.

Really? I thought almost all adult males carried a pocketknife. Ooops sorry, I must be talking about the generations before the pussified ones. My mistake.
It's a common mistake to believe that everyone else is similar to you. Most people don't carry a knife, or a flashlight, or cash, or tools, etc.

In my circle of friends and aquaintances young and old, I would estimate 75% carry a pocketknife, so not really just a belief that others carry like myself.

In jr. high and high school I carried a pocket knife and in college I had a Swiss Army knife. After that it was a Buck knife. I don't carry a knife now but I have knives at home, in the truck and at work, usually always within easy reach. To me a knife has always been a tool that a man has around him.
In my high school we had a history teacher that wore a gun and I was on the school shooting team.
