View Full Version : New paperweight or can it be salvaged?
My buddy tried to build his first lower, fitment was snug so he figured he would drill it out. Well the bit broke and he jacked it up trying to get the stuck bit out. Can it be fixed?

$50 mistake. Write it off and start over, as it will probably be a lot more expensive to fix than replace.

Is bit showing in the push pin hole? If so you may be able to pinch with needle nose and back it out. Assuming you get it out, you could clean up mistake and thread for a plug, then shorten your spring a few coils and insert with plug screwed in. This would also serve to keep detent and spring in place when removing stock. Now a feature and no one knows.
Bert may also have some ideas for you.

^^This^^
it's not trashed merely updated to something more tactical.
The question is WTF was "your friend" thinking that would solve the problem, by drilling out the take down pin hole?
I was fortunate to build my first with a gunsmith, and YouTube walking me thru it all. Yes, my friend, attempted on his on. He tossed me the lower and has already bought and built one. I didn't know if I could salvage this and make it another truck gun.
Thunder... what are those pins?
henpeck, I'll pm you tomorrow.

the hole was too small for the pin to be inserted, he thought he could use the bit to take the coating off a bit.
I had the same problem, but my other friend showed me to sand the pin slightly instead.
