I purchased a BCG online and along with it the company sent a small O-ring. I found what the O-ring is for using Google but what is everyone else's experience using them? I have never used over before and have never had a problem. Overkill?

Probably overkill but all of mine have them. It just adds some extra tension to the extractor. I think.

All of mine have them and came with them. Thousands of rounds through all of them with no problem. I think it makes the extractor get a strong hold on the casing.

Sounds like it's either a spare, or an option to install. See how it runs without, first.

I've never had problems with FTE with my guns, but I know a lot of people that swear by them. Shouldn't hurt either way.

I suppose if I were selling them, a part that's a penny or two to make, for $1 or more, I'd say you definitely need one and you need to replace it every hundred rounds or so.

Back when the extractor buffer was rubber they gave a bit of extra Insurance. With the new polyurethane buffer material they are unnecessary.
Run it if ya want but you aren't going to run a semi hard enough to see any difference.

I never use them. I change all 16in carbine length gas system to bcm extractor springs. I leave my middie and 20in guns with the regular spring.

They really shine when using steel case with high rd counts in between cleanings. Other wise not really needed but you got it so might as well use it
